Walk in the park

I was walking in the park the other night and looked to my left, I saw this trail that ran off and the sun was setting and this orange glow was shooting across the trail and hitting the trees. It was lovely, I hope you feel that when you look at this. This is in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback on my palette knife portrait, I love the opportunity to share my art with other artists.

Palette Knife Portrait

Susan Carlin has been painting portraits with a palette knife lately, she's amazing at it. I told her she could paint with her toes, lol. She did a live broadcast yesterday and completed three palette knife portraits while we watched. I thought I'd take a stab at it and here she is, it was fun to do. Not up to Susan's standards but more good practice. We had a live model this morning at my Monday morning painting group, first time I've painted a live person. I chose a bad position to stand in, I was directly in front of her. The painting came out fair, not exactly like her and the straight on view made it look a bit like a mug shot. I figure everything I do good or bad is good practice and it was fun. This is painted in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. What'd you think?

Evening Sunset

I painted this yesterday. I find that dark landscapes are very appealing to me. I put some black paint on my palette and mixed it into olive green to get the trees very dark to start. I think I'm pleased with this, it has a nice feel to it. I just keep trying all subjects, some artist's seem to paint everything, maybe I'll be one of those artist??? This is painted in oils on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.

Shadows, 8 X 10

I painted this landscape yesterday. It's painted on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. Check out Susan Carlin's blog, she's going to be doing a live painting demo on Sunday and the details are on her blog. This painting is available for purchase, $50 plus $10 shipping. Thanks!

Corn Fields, 10 X 10, oil

I painted this over the weekend on a 10 X 10 stretched canvas, hope you like it. Another subject, if you have never checked out Wetcanvas you should. It's a website for artist's, you can post art just to share it or you can post it in the critique section. Lots of things to do there and I think it's a great resource. Go check it out, it's free. I've added a Buy now button if you would like to purchase this painting, it's $50 plus $10 shipping, might need some drying time.

Portrait, oil 8 X 10

I tried my hand at a portrait again. I painted this from a photo of one of my nieces. I painted it like I do my landscapes, I covered the whole canvas with thinned down paint. I sketched it on and then put color everywhere but in a wash, then I started working on details. I think it's my best yet, I wanted it to be loose and more of an impression of her. Today a portrait, tomorrow a landscape??? Never know what you'll find when you visit me do you? I love it all, lol. Have a good day! I changed out this photo after a small adjustment to the painting. I painted in a chair so it made sense why her right arm was up. Hopefully an improvement.

A Landscape, step by step, 16 X 20

Hi, I thought for a change I'd post the steps of one of my paintings, hopefully it will be of interest to someone. There are 5 photos. Go to the bottom photo and work up. The first I thinned down a dark color and washed it on. The second photo I started adding greens to the trees and reflections. Third photo I added the blue to the sky and water, keeping the blue out of the trees to keep it clean. Fourth photo I've added detail to the trees in the sky and added detail in the water. The final photo I've added a stone bridge. I think I'm pretty happy with it, I think the water leads your eye right back to the bridge. My reference photo was a picture I took on a river close to here, of course I added the bridge because the metal one in the photo didn't look good. Hope you find this interesting. Thanks so much!

Another small landscape

Hi, I painted another small one, oil on a 5 X 7 panel. I'm trying out some different compositions and then I plan to paint a 16 X 20 landscape. Hot here in Ohio but then it's not snow, lol. Happy painting

Quick little painting, landscape

Hi, I'm keeping my four year old grandson for four days while his parents are in Aruba. I really didn't expect to get much painting done while he was here but when I put him down for his nap I thought I could do a little one. So this is in oil on a 5 X 7 canvas board, sometimes I like things better when I paint quickly and don't think so much about what I'm doing. I may paint this on a larger canvas later. I painted it in about an hour. Do you like it?? See you soon.

More practice

Hi, I finished this yesterday. It's in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. I was practicing trying to push my values, I tried to paint darker darks and lighter lights. I thought it came out kind of interesting. Loosely painted from a photo of my niece but I wouldn't consider it a portrait. Have a good day.

Another try at a portrait, oil 8 X 10

Good Morning, I finished this last night, it's a portrait of my niece. I've only painted like two portraits so I think I'm improving. I'm trying to use darker colors in the face, I think the first few I did were too washed out. One of my other nieces is coming over to day, she's going to let me take a lot of photos of her. Hoping to get some good reference material. Let me know how I did. Take care. Barb

Red Team again

Here is my painting of the red team again. I made a few changes. I added a ball cap to the fellow on the left and painted his left leg showing and did some other small things. How does it look to you now? I signed up to take a portrait workshop in August, I never thought I'd be interested in painting portraits but I want to try everything. Susan Carlin really inspired me to give it a try, wish I lived closer to her. Bye

Still life- Oil 8X 10

Hi, I painted this still life today. I set this up for our group to paint this morning. One gal painted it large and close up and ran it off the canvas, I liked her composition much better than mine. Maybe I'll try it again and do something similar. It's hard to share a still life set up, not everyone can have the best view. Worked a bit more on the Red Team, maybe I'll finish it soon. Have a great day!

The Red Team

Hi, I took this photo in the park the other day, I thought what a cute subject to paint. It's painted in oil on a 11 X 14 stretched canvas. Not quite sure I'm finished with it, helps to get it on here and take a good look at it. Hope you like it.

Looking for treasures

I took the photo of these two little girls last week in Loveland, I just love little girls in pink. I'm enjoying painting all different subjects, I just want to try everything. We have around 30 people coming tomorrow for a picnic. We back up to a park and they shoot fireworks off right over our heads. If the wind is blowing our way they fall all over us, it's fantastic and terrifying all at the same time. I tell everyone to bring hats so we don't have any hair fires, lol. Happy 4th of July to all of you, I hope you get to spend it with family.
