Youtube video

Hi,  Well the weather has been horrible here the last few days,  lots of snow and ice.  So yesterday I decided to try something I thought might be fun as I was stuck in the house anyway.  I did this painting and photographed it all throughout the painting and made a youtube video of it.  This reference photo came from Wetcanvas,  looks like an interesting fellow that might have been at a renaissance festival.  This is painted in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.

Edward Potthast, 1857-1927

Hi,  I went to the Cincinnati Art museum on Saturday with a group to paint.  It is such fun and I highly recommend it if you never tried it.  They allow you to come in and do it anytime.  You have to set up 4 ft. away and bring a drop cloth.  I painted Edward Potthast's Playtime,  almost sure that is the name.  We only had around 3 hours so I wanted a fairly simple one, my husband did not understand why they did not have faces, lol.  I painted it in oil on a 11 X 14 canvas panel.

Shy glance

Hi,  Well here is another child .  I love the bright light on her blond hair and her braid.  This is in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.  I ordered 10 gallery canvases that are 1 3/8" thick,   I thought I might paint children on those and they wouldn't have to be framed.  Somewhere someone will need to hang those, don't you  think, lol.   Maybe a daycare, hmmmm.  Have to work on that.  Have a great day!

Another child painting

Hi,  The second in my series of children's paintings.  Eight months ago I never thought I would be interested in painting portraits but I just love creating faces.  This little gal is painted in oil on a 8 X 10 Raymar panel.   Hope you like her.

Little Redhead

Hello, I had such fun painting this portrait. I think I may do a series of close up shots of children, I already painted another one. This is in oil on a 8 X 10 Raymar panel. I love the light on her face and how the sunlight is hitting her red hair. Happy painting! SOLD

Lovely Lady

Hi,   I kind of put this gal together on my own.   I painted her face looking at one image and the rest I just kind of made up as I went along. I do believe you should always work from a reference but this didn't work out that way.  I did have a headband on her to match her dress and my husband felt it took away from her.  I think people that don't paint can still be a great help critiquing your paintings. This is in oil on a 10 X 10 stretched canvas.

Different Strokes Challenge

Hello,   Well I thought I would try another one of Karin Jurick's challenge photos.  My first night time scene, hope it feels like that.   This is in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.  It always amazes me all of the different ways we choose to paint the same subject.   I cropped it and tried to paint it loosely,  took me about 2 hours.  Hope you like it.

Hopscotch & my new easel

Hi there, I shot this photo last summer of my grandson playing hopscotch. Well, maybe not playing but jumping around at Grandma's request so I could take a photograph. Don't know if I am spelling hopscotch correct, don't think I have ever had to write the word, hmmm. Anyway here he is, a very cute redhead if I say so myself. I tried to paint what I saw, the darks and the lights so it was an impressionistic view of him. It is in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. Here is a photo of my new easel in my messy studio, it is a Pablo studio easel from Jerry's and so far I like it a lot. SOLD

My New Pet

Hello,  I painted this a few days ago,  think I am finished with it.  This is in oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas.  Sweet little girl holding her dog.  This is painted from a reference I found on Wetcanvas,  she had nice light on her.  I am just hooked on Ustream painting shows,  I watch three different people paint now.  Davethepaintingguy  paints portraits normally 3 days a week and Susan Carlin paints on Tuesday evenings,  also a portrait painter.  Then there is Roger Bansemer who just jumps on all different times and paints with acrylics.  I should spend more time painting and less time watching but I love it!  So if you decide you want to just sit and watch someone else paint check them out.

First painting of the new year

My new easel arrived yesterday and of course I had to break it in.  I painted this in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. Someone asked me to photograph it and I will soon,  it isn't anything fancy just a simple H studio easel.  I painted this from an old black and white photo,  it makes it hard because you  just have to make up skin tones.  Kind of glad for the holidays to be over and get back to painting more often.
