Online Workshop

Hello,  I spent this whole weekend taking an online workshop with Dave Darrow.  I have taken many workshops with different results but all similar. The teacher normally demos and then we paint and they might make it around to you once or maybe twice depending on the number of people in the workshop. Not knocking workshops but some are better than others.  I really really enjoyed this online workshop.  It felt as though I was getting 12 or so hours of private instruction.  I set my computer up by my easel and painted right along with Dave.  We sent in our progress photos for critiques two times each day to help us make sure  we were headed in the right direction.  I am pretty pleased with my painting,  the likeness isn't right on but I wanted to follow Daves lead and sketch it on the canvas his way instead of my usual way.  I start with the eyes normally and work my way out. This is oil on a 11 X 14 linen panel.  Dave is doing this same workshop next weekend and I don't believe it is full yet. I would highly recommend it.  He has another coming up in a couple of weeks on a nude figure also.  Hopefully you can tell the progression of these,  they go from the bottom up.  Bottom two are the first day,  sketch and where we finished up.  The third is earlier today and the top two are the finished painting.

Still life 8X10

Hi there,  I painted this Monday,  I set this up for my group to paint. I think no matter what subject matter interest you still lifes are always good practice.  There is a bit of glare, sorry.  I am taking a online portrait workshop next weekend with Dave Darrow.  We will paint 6 hours on Saturday and Sunday, following along with him as he paints the same image.  Throughout the day we will send in progress photos of our work for critique. I'll probably do a post on the workshop once I complete it and let you know how it went.  Hope you are having a great day!

Sweet Boy

Hi, This is my neighbors grandson, I chased him all around their yard taking photos of him. His hair is blond white and the sun was shining. What a cutie, I did have their permission of course, lol. This is oil on a 8 X 10 Raymar panel. Tough angle to paint, looking down at him and to the side. More of a challenge than I expected, I wiped it down once.

Smelling the flowers

Hi,   This little gal is oil on a 11 X 14 canvas panel.  The light is on her back and her face is in shadow. The left hand was challenging because of the position but hopefully it reads right. I think it is finished but you know until it is varnished it is fair game to play with, lol.

Portrait

Hello there,  I painted this a few days ago,  oil on a 11 X 14 canvas panel.  The image is from a renaissance festival I think. I liked the way she is looking off to the side and I wanted her eyes to be the focus.  I hope it looks as if the light is hitting her eyes,  I tried to get that effect with brighter lights.  If you haven't yet discovered Ustream I would highly recommend it.  It is a live streaming network with several excellent painting shows.  David Darrow and Susan Carlin are both wonderful portrait painters and the list goes on.  Have a great day!
