Peach Roses again

Hi! Well I managed to paint these peach roses one more time before they completely wilted. This is oil on a 11" X 14" canvas, working with a dark background this time. One nice tip I got at Nancy Frankes workshop was to put some cad red light in your dark backgrounds, it gives it some warmth and atmosphere.
Ordered the new Qiang Hiang's DVD, it's very good. He explains his process and supplies very well, I have followed him for years and love his work. His link is here on my blog in my list of artists if you are not familiar with him.  See you soon

Peach Roses

Hi!  I took these wonderful peach roses and fresh pears to my group Monday to paint. I think five or six of us painted or sketched this set up or the second one I brought. Actually now that I think about it the others chose my other set up of roses in a ball jar.  Loved the color of the roses. I tried to think about the things I learned in my Nancy Franke workshop.  I blocked in with a paper towel, used a little spatula thingie for laying in my roses. I painted this on linen and really love using linen but of course it's more expensive to paint on. Love the texture and it is so easy to wipe back to the linen if you need to. I did wipe the light areas of the pears back and added cleaner paint toward the end. This is oil on a 8" X 10" linen panel.

Thanks for visiting, stay warm and safe.

Ballerina update

Hi there! Well she's back with some changes. I worked on her a bit more and then took it to critique. They really didn't have too much, felt maybe I needed more detail in her back, lower her elbow and thought I had a line around her where I painted in the background. Last night I painted the background again, worked on the flesh tones more and I toned down a lot of the orange in her hair. Hubby didn't like all the orange in her hair and I took that into consideration too. Could it be done? Maybe, lol  I heard once it takes two artists to paint a painting, one to paint it and one to tell them when it's done, lol. "Back away from the canvas"
