Ballerina in Red

Hi there, I painted this last night, oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel. I did a lot of it with a palette knife as I wanted it to be very painterly. Haven't signed it yet but I think I am done. The left leg was extended in the photo and was lighter, I hope it feels closer to the viewer.

Taking A Break

Hello there! I painted this recently from a photo from Wetcanvas, I cropped this little gal out of a photo. Wetcanvas is a nice site for artists. It's free, there are forums to discuss different mediums and subjects, you can post paintings to be critiqued and they have a photo library of uncopyrighted photos you can use to paint from.

This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas and I love that little bit of warm light running up the inside of her arm.

The Opening of Red

Hi there, Tonight was such a fun night. This was a very successful show for Pop Revolution gallery with so many submissions and a wonderful crowd. I submitted two paintings and both were accepted. When I arrived I found out one had sold, woo hoo. The 8 x 10 called "God Loves the Color Red" sold and I received an Honorable Mention on "Date Night" the 11 x 14. The show will hang for a month so there is always a chance that the other one might sell. As an artist you have to try to go with the flow, acceptance, rejection and so on but tonight was a good night and I'll sleep well.

Blue & White with Oranges

Hi, I painted this on Monday morning, made several adjustments to it when I brought it home and here it is. Finished I think but I may adjust it a bit. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I really do like dramatic still lifes, very dark backgrounds and well lit subjects.

This Saturday is the opening of "Red", I'll be sure to take some photos to post.

A Painting in a Painting....

Hello there, This is oil on a 12 x 12 canvas and will be framed in a black 3" frame. I plan to submit this to a juried show but I just keep busy painting and that may change. I painted this from a set up and if you look closely you can see that I painted the scene inside the little frame and so on and so on. I had fun with it and I hope they like the concept.

Great news, out of 117 submissions to the Red show they accepted only 55 but they took both of mine, the opening will be this Saturday night and I'll take some photos. I am very excited and honored to be accepted.

Into the Night

Hello! Well this was a fun challenge. I turned the reference photo upside down and painted it that way trying to look at shapes and colors as there was a lot going on in the photo. I turned everything around after the canvas was covered and starting making adjustments. In the photo there were taxi cabs in the street and I decided to simplify it so there was a place for the eye to rest. Anyway it's a bit looser than I normally paint but I think I like it. This is oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel.

"Vintage Memories"

Hi, My husband helped me set up this still life, I will be donating it to BUFF. That stands for Buckeye United Fly Fishers, my husband is a member of their group and this will be auctioned off at their annual banquet. This is a 6 x 6 Raymar panel and I am framing it in a 3" black plein air frame. The items include my father in law's reel and my Dad's pipe.

It was fun to do and I may do more paintings of a similar theme, my hubby would love that, lol.

Hi there, I painted this recently for the second time, I love this sweet scene. This is in Lancaster, Ohio, a sweet little church community with narrow streets running up and down. This street is one way with a Do Not Enter sign so hence the name. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Still life ~ Jar & Cuties

Hello there! I painted this on Monday from a set up. I took these props along to paint during Monday morning painting with my group. I thought it was pretty much finished when I brought it home but you know how it is when you get away from it and really look at it. It was rendered well but boring, first I mussed up the edges and that seemed to help but I kept looking at it and still wasn't happy with it. The next thing I did was take a palette knife to it going over the jar, lid and "Cuties". I think I am liking it now, heck I even signed it, lol. Took a close up so you could get a better look at it. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Cutie in a Tutu

Hello! This little gals mother has a studio in the Pendleton Art Center, her mother in addition to other things makes and sells tutus. During the Charity Ball a few weeks ago Mom sent her upstairs to hand out flyers. I just loved the way she looked with her orange top, blue jeans, tutu and boots. This is little, a 6 x 6 Raymar panel so her face is pretty tiny. I plan to give it to her Mom at our First Friday in January, stop by and see us if you are in Middletown Ohio from 5-9.

On A Rainy Day

Hi, This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I wanted this to feel like a cloudy rainy day. I used grayed down colors for everything but my little gal. I wanted the red umbrella to pop and I used a palette knife to lay it in. When my little gal went out to walk in the rain God loved her red umbrella so much that the sky radiated and reflected that glorious red. Just what I thought about after I finished it, crazy?

Pink Lilies

Hello there, I painted this from a set up a while back. I started by putting a dark color on the canvas and then wiping out the area where I would paint my lilies with spirits. I painted in the lilies and then went over the dark background once again. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Shore Birds

Hi there! I took the reference photo for this painting last winter in Florida. I really don't know much about birds, I thought these were a type of sea gull but I am not sure. I loved the two little guys on the left that were looking right at me, and I love their little knees, lol. I like paintings that evoke some feeling from the viewer and hopefully this makes you smile. This is oil on a 6 x 6 Raymar panel.

My Christmas Card

Hi there, I hope you are enjoying the holiday season, I can't believe Christmas is so close. The last 4 years I have painted the image for my Christmas cards, sometimes I order them printed on cards and other times I print photos of the painting and buy the type of card where you insert them. This is the image I painted for this years card, I painted it from a set up on a 8 x 10 canvas. My husband really wanted me to paint a duck decoy, I added the ornaments to hopefully make it feel like a Christmas card. I had shot gun shells in the set up too but wasn't feeling them, lol.

Watching the Girls Go By

Hi there! This is painted on a 11 x 14 canvas painted from a reference photo I took last summer. I loved the little girl with the tube. The sea gull wasn't there but I thought it added some humor to it.

Starting work on a painting for a show called "Red" in February. I like the theme it really leaves it open to so many possibilities.

I want to do a bit more work to it but I'm looking at it for now. May work on some of the skin tones, maybe lighten the eye in shadow? This is oil a 11 x 14 linen panel.

Geraniums

Hi! Well I painted geraniums once again, what can I say I love them. This was painted from a set up, oil on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas. The background started out a light shade of green and as you can see it evolved into this darker color.

We had a model at my Monday painting group this morning. Such fun, our model was such a lovely young gal and did a great job of sitting still. I'm still tweaking it a bit but will post it soon. Next Monday we are painting Christmas still lifes, hoping to get a painting I like for my Christmas cards this year.

My Newest Teapot

Hi Everyone, Well I'm so bad, I bought yet another teapot. I was in a antique store near here and I fell in love with this brass teapot. I think part of the reason it appealed to me so much is because it is so much like one that C.W. Mundy paints in one of his dvds and I love his work. I enjoyed my first try at it and I'll give it another go before too long. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Very excited about this Monday, we have a model coming in for my Monday painting group. She's a beautiful young gal and it is always such a treat to have a live model. Hopefully I'll get something I won't be embarrassed to show you, lol.

Down on the Farm

Hello there! I painted this recently from a reference photo I took while in Hillsboro Ohio. Our last camping trip of the year was in Hillsboro, a beautiful rolling county in Ohio with lots of farms. I took quite a few photos of this farm, they had donkeys, cows and as you can see sheep. It's great when you take a photo and you just know it's one you will paint, that's how I felt about this one. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Hi Gang, Just a quick post to let you know my painting of a "Snow Day in Pine Hill" took 1st place the Holiday card contest. I am so thrilled and honored. Representative Beck will hang the painting in his office and the image will be used on all of his holiday cards. The photo is Representative Beck on the left and Meredith Raffel on the other side of me, she is the executive director of Mason Deerfield Arts Alliance, they sponsor the event. So I'm a happy girl tonight. Woo Hoo!

Shhhh, it's a secret

Hi there, These 3 little paintings were donated to Secret Artworks. The opening is the 18th so it's a secret until then. This is the third year I have entered paintings, this year it was by invitation only so I was honored they asked me to participate. These are all oil on 5x 7 panels. The way it works is people purchase tickets to attend the event for $125 each. You can attend the opening which include cocktails and appetizers and you get to take home one painting. We do not sign the front of the paintings and you do not know who the artist is until they take it off the wall. It's a fun event, people rush in looking for their favorite painting. They preview the art online and in the lobby of the Westin Hotel prior to the event. Not the best photo, I almost forgot to shoot them until the last minute but you can get the idea. This is the tacky box I carry some of my wet paintings around in, lol.

My Other 2 paintings for the Holiday Card Show

Hi there, Here are the other 2 paintings I am entering in the Warren County Holiday Card Show. I dropped them off today and the opening is this Saturday at Gallery 42 in Mason Ohio from 4-8. The awards ceremony is at 6 so stop by if you are in the area. Keeping my fingers crossed to win something but either way it's a nice opportunity. The show will hang for a month or so and there is the hope that they might sell during that time. Both of these are 11 x 14 and will be framed in 3" black frames. The snow scene is the park behind me and the train scene is in Lebanon, Ohio. The theme is Warren County, Ohio's playground.

Holiday Card Show

Hi! For the 3rd year I am entering a Holiday card show here in Warren County. Representative Pete Beck chooses his favorite image to be his Holiday card for each year. The theme this year is Warren County "Ohio's Largest Playground". He purchases first place and 2nd and 3rd receive a cash prize and 2 honorable mentions. Last year one of my paintings took 2nd and it sold while hanging in Gallery 42 for the month of the show. I'll post the other 2 soon, I am calling this "A winter stroll in PIne Hill Park". I took this photo last winter, I loved this little gals pink and green coat. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas and of course will be framed for the show, I drop them off this Tuesday.

Tomorrow night is First Friday at the Middletown Pendleton Art Center from 5-9, stop by if you are in the area.

Geraniums & Copper

Hi there, Just home from camping for a few days, quickly running out of nice weather so it was great to get away. I didn't take my paints this time but I sketched like crazy. My hubby fished one day and I just sketched everything around me, leaves, trees and a boat on the lake. I should sketch more but I just can't wait to play in those juicy paints, lol.

I did this painting last week from a set up, it is very painterly with lots of paint. I used a palette knife to finish off the background.
It is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Sweet Little House

Hi there, This little house isn't too far from me here in Mason Ohio. I loved the way the sunlight was hitting it and of course I loved the fact that they were displaying the flag. This is another 6 x 6 on a Raymar panel.

I found a great way to display these little panels. I bought 40" aluminum rulers, I think that is what they are called. They are light weight with a hole drilled in one end. I took the plain side and attached velcro all the way down and then I attach a small piece of velcro to my panels and I can spread out 6 panels down the length of it. It looks really nice. I am going to hang one of my easels near by with a panel on it because the easels come with them. I'll take a photo when I get it hung and show you because this may not make sense, lol.

Hi there, This was painted from a reference photo I took last summer while out camping. Not exactly sure where it is but isn't it lovely? lol I need to title my photos because so many areas look similar. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Cooling off here much too quickly, we had hoped to camp a few more times this fall but Mother Nature is fighting us, lol. I wanted to get out and paint some fall colors too but the leaves are coming down fast . Excuses, excuses, right? Too hot, too cold, I just want things perfect. Good luck with that, right?

So Sleepy- wip

Hi there, Sorry I haven't posted this week, it's been a busy week. My birthday was Wednesday and my sweet husband took me to the Cincinnati Art Museum for the day. We had lunch there and enjoyed ourselves, they had a special exhibition of dresses from the 20's. I had this idea it would be cool to paint them but I got yelled at for taking photos, lol. I seem to get in trouble there a lot. For some reason they don't want my nose buried in the paintings either, lol.

This painting is 11 x 14 and I have worked on it off and on for quite a while. The original image came from Wetcanvas but other than it having a little girl and teddy sitting on her bed you wouldn't recognize it. The little girl has changed at least 3 times along with a lot of other things. Now I am at that stage where I am studying it to decide if I am happy with it. Any suggestions?

First Friday

Hi Everyone, I appreciated everyones good wishes for my First Friday at the Pendleton Art Center. Friday night was fun. A good crowd with lots of friendly people and a lot of familiar faces. I think the local people are really enjoying the center. A lot of them show up for each First Friday. There is food and music and so much to see, however they are enjoying it but not buying. They need to support us with purchases too if they want the center to be a success. I spoke to a few of the other studio artists and they're not sure they will renew their leases unless things pick up. I am hoping come spring when it's time to renew our lease that most of my studio buddies want to go on for another year, I think you have to hang in there for a few years and allow things to grow. I sold one small painting and I think someone is coming back for one of my 8 x 10's next month. Hopefully November and December will be great months for everyone. I love to paint and will continue to paint no matter what but it's nice to recoup some of your expenses and it's always so great when someone wants to live with your art. Here are a few photos of my walls, the triptych is outside the studio. There is a cafe in the building open Monday-Friday so the outside wall continues to get some exposure through the month. Thanks again for your wonderful support, It means a lot to me.

Poppies & Apples

Hello, I painted this one yesterday with my group Mason Area Painters. I took a box full of set ups and people picked from that what they wanted to paint. I chose this, I loved the red through out and I always enjoy painting this sweet little green Ball jar. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I just love hanging out with a group of people that share my passion.

I have been very busy painting but can't post most of it. I painted 3 small paintings for an event called "Secret Artworks", maybe when it gets closer I'll post those. Also I am working on 2 paintings for a "Holiday card" competition, this is the 3rd year Representative Beck has chosen an image for his Holiday card. Last year I took second place and my painting sold while it was hanging in the gallery.

This Friday night is "First Friday" at our studio in the Middletown Pendleton Art Center and you are probably sick of hearing about it but I am the Featured Artist this month, lol. I hung all of my art the other day and now I am putting together serving dishes and thinking about food. I'm really excited if you can't tell. Stop by if you live in the area, we are open 5-9 on Friday and 11-2 on Saturday.

Ballerina

Hello, I have been working on this one on and off, not sure if I am finished or not. She has went from an image of a gal dressed for the Renaissance festival with her hair hanging down to a ballerina with her hair up. The background was very dark and now as you can see it has shades of purples and greens. I faced her away and I want to leave it up to the viewer as to what is going on. Is she ready to dance, has she just finished dancing, is she tired or unhappy or deep in thought? What do you think? Think she needs more work? This is oil on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas. If you are an artist you know how paintings evolve, part of the fun isn't it?

A Charming House

Hi, Well it was a long weekend. I spent Saturday morning accepting the paintings for the Festival and then several of us hung all of the paintings. Sunday I was there all day volunteering. I didn't win anything but had a great time visiting with folks. I rarely agree with the judges choices, unless they choose mine of course, lol. I know that some people that do not paint still have a good eye however I think the judge needs to appreciate the process of how you take a blank canvas and take it to a finished painting. They also need to understand good composition, value, edges etc. There! I'm done complaining, lol.

This painting was done looking at one of my reference photos, I'm not exactly sure where this house is. Someplace in Ohio while we were out and about. This is oil on a 6 x 6 Raymar panel.

Once I get through a few events I will be offering these little paintings on here or possibly Ebay.

Red Geraniums

Hello, I hope you are having a wonderful day! It's a bit cooler than normal here but the weekend is supposed to be great and I'm grateful for that.

I painted this from a set up, first time I have tried to paint this pot. The geraniums are silk, I paint from silk flowers a lot. Michael's Arts & Crafts has wonderful flowers and fantastic fake fruit. This is oil and this is one of the paintings I will be hanging in the studio for the month of October when I am the Featured Artist. The frame is from Dick Blick, their 3" plein air frame.

I have been trying to post better photos of my work, still struggling. I adjust settings and try to get it to the point that it is depicting my painting pretty close.

Boat

Hi! Another boat painting for your viewing pleasure, lol. This image was a combination of a photo from Wetcanvas and some other things. The boat actually came from one photo but I completely changed the background. This is oil on a 6 x 6 Raymar panel.

Getting ready for our local art festival this weekend. I have 2 paintings entered into the juried section of the City Gallery and my painting group will have a display there also. Saturday I will be there most of the day, accepting art and then hanging all of the art. Sunday I volunteer to spend the day there during the festival, watching the art and doing exciting things like stocking paper products in the restrooms.

A Sheep

Hi! This was fun to paint, I added lots of texture with a palette knife at then end to suggest hair. Sheep and goats have creepy eyes don't they? lol I had those yellow eyes painted in with those horizontal pupils and then I decided to darken the eyes and just suggest them, I like them better. At one point I was pretty sure I wanted to paint portraits but I don't feel that way now but every now and then I get the urge to paint a face. Sometimes it's the face of a sheep or rabbit, lol.

More Boats

Hi there! This is another one of my 6 x 6 paintings. I enjoyed doing boats so much that I tried it again. Are these called dinghys? Not sure, I love those little red floats hanging on them. Recently we visited a lake near here and they had an area off to the side where they stored boats. I found it so interesting, most of them had been there for years, kind of sad. It was like a boat graveyard, no one loved them anymore. I find I like sailboats and old fishing boats, the sailboats have an elegance to them and the old fishing boats have so much history to them.

Hi there, I painted this Monday on one of my little 6 x 6 Raymar panels. This is painted looking at a painting by Mary Cassatt. It isn't exactly like her image I just looked at her painting and free handed everything. I cropped it a bit to fit this square format. I have painted so many different subjects on these and I'm having a ball. I think I have a dozen and I am going strong, hopefully they'll go over big in October at our studio.

Silver Teapot, still life

Hi! I painted this recently, a bit larger for me. 16 X 20 oil on a stretched canvas. I purchased this old silver teapot a while back and set up this somewhat elaborate set up. I hope you find it interesting, I think the tulips and the spoon lead you back into the painting. Silver can be fun and a bit challenging to paint, I try hard to paint what I see and hope that it ends up reading like silver.

Hi Everyone, Another little 6 X 6 painting on a Raymar panel. This was painted from a reference photo I took somewhere here in Ohio. These little paintings will sell for $50 and that includes a wood table top easel. I photographed this one outside on a bench in the front, I am always struggling to get decent photos of my work. I feel they look so much better in person, they seemed grayed down in the photos most of the time. I'll just keep trying.

Sailboats

Hello, As you can see I painted another boat painting, I love the colors in and around the water. This is another 6 x 6 Raymar panel and it comes with a table top easel. Hi, I hope your day is going well. Well as you can tell I am having a great time painting these little 6 x 6 canvases. I think I mentioned it but I ordered black wood easels for these. I am selling them with the easel for $50 at my opening in October. If I post one you are interested in let me know and I'll sell it to you with a bit for shipping before then. Acton Lake

Hi, This is another little one, 6 x 6 on a Raymar panel. I painted this in Houston Woods looking over Acton Lake. It actually was a full moon but I thought if I painted it that way it might look like the sun. There was a row of pole lamps off to the right reflecting light on the boats. My first boats I think, I tried to paint what I was seeing and not analyze it so hopefully everything reads correctly. I purchased little easels to set these panels on, I think they display wonderfully that way.

My plein air paintings from Milford, Ohio

Hi, These are the 2 paintings I did last Saturday at the OPAS event in Milford Ohio. I had several nice comments on them but neither sold. They are oil on 6 X 6 Raymar panels and it was fun working on this small canvas. It was a fun day, great weather and nice people.

I just went camping the last few days and I painted outside one evening by the lake after dark. It was such a pleasant experience and I had a full moon looking down on me. Still need to tweek that one a bit and then maybe I'll share it with you.

I have decided to paint the pack of 10 I bought and try to sell them at our studio in October when I am the featured artist. This size is cute on an easel on sitting on a shelf. Hi there, I painted this a couple of weeks ago and may go back in and tweek it a bit yet. I cut some blooms from my Rose of Sharon bush and set this up. I love purple, my favorite color. This little bowl I picked up a while back keeps showing up in my paintings, what can I say? I like it! This is oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel.

I painted in Milford yesterday at the OPAS event, Ohio Plein Air Society. A fun day, artists painting all over town and then we meet for a wet paint sale. I love seeing the results of the event. I painted 2 6x6 panels and was pretty happy with them. I received some nice comments on them but they didn't sell. Oh well, no regrets it was a fun day. All we can do is try to do our best work and the rest is up to the customer I guess. I think it's a tricky business, selling I mean. I want the customer to love my painting and buy the work for that reason. I want to be friendly and not pushy but I notice some artists are kind of all over people and I see that sometimes works for them. How do you handle customers that attend shows?

I deleted a few artists from my blog list, I am sorry if you happen to be one. I hate to send people over to blogs that haven't been updated in months but I completely understand if you can't keep up with your blog for some reason, life happens.

Middletown, Ohio

Hello there, I have been working on this triptych for the last several months. This is a street scene in Middletown Ohio near the Pendleton Art Center where I share a studio. I am the featured artist for October and I thought this would be interesting hanging outside our studio. When I am the featured artist I get to hang my art on the exterior wall of the studio and the inside of that wall also. I think I am finished with it but I was tweaking it again today, lol. The center canvas is 16 x 20 and the 2 outside canvases are 12 x 16. They are the 1 1/2 deep canvases and I painted the edges dark. I will spread them out a bit so the length will be somewhere around 45".

This Friday the 5th is "First Friday" at our studio from 5-9, Saturday is second look Saturday and we will also be open 11-2. Please stop by if you are in Middletown Ohio.

Saturday I won't be at the studio, I plan to do a plein air event in Milford Ohio. Hoping for a dry day. We paint from 9-3 with a wet paint sale from 3:30 - 5.

Loveland, Ohio- Paint the Town

Hi! Several weeks ago I participated in an event called Paint the Town in Loveland, Ohio. I know I posted about it but I don't think I showed you any of my completed work. I painted 2 paintings and this is one of those. This is oil on a 11 x 14 Raymar panel. I took photos and got started on this at home, setting up my sketch with thin paint. I spent several more hours standing on the curb in Loveland, in the sun, fighting the bees to complete this, lol. The wet paint sale was not well attended with only a few sales, such a shame. I always enjoy painting there. Loveland is a busy town in the summer, a bike trail goes right through it and there are cafes that have tables outside with wonderful colorful umbrellas.

Spent yesterday in Middletown Ohio painting on the street, still working on my large triptych for October, I'll share that with you eventually.

Hi there, This is a commission, a cute little business in Lebanon Ohio. I met the very nice gal that owns this shop while demonstrating at the Warren County Arts Festival. This is oil on a 11 x 14 Raymar panel. I took it to a place where I was pleased with it and then took it to her to see if she wanted any changes made. She was happy with it just where it is, woo hoo. So after a bit of drying time and a coat of Re-touch varnish, back in the frame and I will deliver it to her.

Blue, White & Brass

Hi Everyone, I completed this recently and submitted it today to our local arts festival. This is oil on a 11 x 14 Raymar panel. The background color is unusual for me and I ended up custom ordering a frame for it that I liked. The festival isn't until September but the deadline for submissions was coming up soon.

I just finished a commission of a frozen custard shop, I think I am finished, lol. I am taking it up tomorrow for final approval. Really hoping I don't have to start making little changes now but you never know.

Also I am working on a triptych, a series of three stretched canvases with a city scene, having a great time with this one.

Having quite the heat wave here, we are under a heat advisory. Once the heat lets up I'll be back outside to paint. I must admit the older I get the harder it is to tolerate heat or really cold temps. I just want it perfect all the time, lol. Good luck, right?

I painted outside today on the street in Middletown, Ohio, that is the town where our new studio space is. Met a lot of nice people and a few strange ones, lol. One gal wanted to know if I was going to hang my painting on the outside of the building I was painting, lol. Why would you think that?? I love the people that tease you about painting them in your painting, I have noticed that it is usually men. It was the perfect day to be out, I loved it.

Hello, I painted this one a while back, it is oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel. I purchase the smooth cotton in the Raymar panels and love them. I do paint frequently on a stretched canvas but I love this firm surface too. Lots of texture in this one, I used a palette knife on a lot of it.

Tomorrow is the 4th of July, I have about 30 people coming for a picnic. Really hoping for dry weather, we have had a crazy wet summer.

Hi there, Well I had a busy weekend, Saturday I demonstrated at the Warren County Arts Festival. I think I have a commission to paint a local frozen custard shop, hope that pans out. Sunday we had our wet paint sale in Loveland, I completed 2 paintings but I didn't sell either one. Actually it was very slow, not sure there were many sales at all, I may not do this event next year even though I love painting the sweet town of Loveland, Oh. They don't promote the event very well, not sure the local people even knew we are there. Oh well, I still enjoyed myself.

This painting is a bit larger for me, 16 X 20 on a stretched canvas. I painted it from a set up and I am happy with it. Might enter this one into the local arts festival this year, I just keep painting like crazy and choose things when it gets closer.

Copper & Oranges

Hi! I painted this last week. This is one of my new treasures, I bought 2 copper pots while antiquing last week. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas.

I am in the middle of an event called "Paint the Town" in Loveland, Ohio. This is the fourth year in a row that I have participated in this event. It started Monday the 20th and will end with a Wet Paint sale this Sunday for 2 hours. You can work there or at home, it isn't really a plein air event. So I signed in, took photos and I have started two paintings at home and I will spend the day there tomorrow finishing them. Hopefully it won't rain on us as you only get a small window of time to try to sell your work.

This Saturday I am painting on the streets of Lebanon, Ohio for the Warren County Arts Festival, my Monday painting group was invited to demonstrate during the festival.

Hi! I have been very productive this week, I think I completed three still lifes and I'm off to paint another one after I post. I LOVE to paint, I hope this crazy passion I have for it never slows down. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. New thrift store finds- still life

Hello there, I just love finding new treasures to paint, I recently purchased this vase and the little bowl at a local thrift store. I get so excited when I come home with a new prop. My husband and I went antiquing this week and I bought two old copper containers, you know you will be seeing those soon.

I tried a different technique for this one, can you guess how I painted it? I am willing to try almost anything, such fun to try something you haven't done before. Did you guess? I put on a glove and painted it with my finger, ha. I am amazed how much I like it, it's loose and juicy and the values really excite me. I found a gal painting on Ustream and she finger paints, I thought why would anyone not use a brush?? I looked at her website and her work is good and she gets big prices for her work, so there you go. We should be open to anything I guess. I will be trying this again, maybe that's my niche? hmmm Let me know if you like it, I know it isn't perfect but hey it's my first, lol

Hi, I painted this a few weeks ago with a set up of fresh cut roses. My roses have been just amazing this year, I guess they liked the cool wet spring. I rarely buy roses anymore, they don't seem to have any smell and before they open the heads seem to drop over.

I have spent most of this week working on a still life that I set up, taking my time and tweaking small details. Trying to maybe slow down a bit, not like I need another painting, lol. I have sooo many paintings stored in my studio but I tell myself "just keep painting". We can't improve if we don't paint and I want so badly to be really good at this one day.

I went to a new members luncheon this Saturday at the Cincinnati Womens Art Club, the club is 118 years old and was started because back then women were not allowed to join the Cincinnati Art Club. We've come a long way baby, lol.

Hi, Well we had another "First Friday" at our new studio last night. We had a steady flow of people and 3 small paintings sold and someone came back today and bought a larger painting. None of the sales were mine but it is good to see that some people are willing to purchase art. It was a fun night hanging out with my studio buddies and visiting with other artists in the building. All of the studios are rented in the new Pendleton Art center so hopefully the town will support the center and things will just get better and better over time.

Hello there, I painted this a few weeks with a set up, I have a collection of this blue and white pottery. It's a simple composition and pretty painterly. This is 8 x 10 on a Raymar panel.

This is a exciting week at our new studio. Wednesday night we are open for a concert on the street, Friday night is First Friday and we are also open on Saturday for Second Look Saturday. I hope we have a good crowd, the opening last month was just great.

Plein Air

Hi, Well I finally got outside to paint last Friday, this has been a very wet and cool spring. I feel like I have missed spring and soon it will be summer. Anyway last Friday was a gorgeous day to be out. I invited my group from Monday morning and a few showed up to paint with me. We painted at a park north of here that has a old dairy barn on the property. I first painted the barn looking in one direction on a 8 x 10 canvas and then rotated my easel and painted a couple of oak trees on a 5 X 7 panel. Such a pleasure to be out and I plan to do it again soon.

Pipe Box & Jug

Hello, I painted this a few weeks ago from a set up. A dear friend made this pipe box for me several years ago and I love it, I thought the shape of it worked well with this jug. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

I think this photograph represents it pretty well, I took several photos. I tried overhead lights on then off with a daylight lamp, out the front door in front of the back door, ahhh. This is the one inside the back door on the floor with some adjustments, there is still a bit of glare although it isn't varnished yet. I have joked about all of the skills an artist must have, photographer, agent, framer and of course painter. If you like my paintings when you see them on my blog or facebook you will love them in person, lol.

Hi there, I painted this from a photo I took last fall. This is in Lancaster Ohio. This little community was built around a church maybe 80-100 years ago and all of the residents were members of this one church. One little home is cuter than the next, some are so tiny. A lot of them have been added onto several times. The tight little streets went up and down and this one had a "Do not enter" sign at one end. Not sure two cars could have passed on any of them. We had bought our new camper and wanted to try it out for the night and stay close to the dealer so we stayed at the campground in the this little town if you want to call it that. Anyway I woke up on my birthday in my new camper in this precious little village. Nice memories. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. SOLD

I managed to get outside and paint yesterday, it was a wonderful day. Warm, dry and sunny, all things that have been hard to come by this spring. Soon it will be very hot and we'll be in a drought, lol.

Teapot & Daisies

Hi, I painted this a few weeks ago from a set up using a old brass teapot a few daisies and a blue and white dish. I always love a touch of blue and white in a painting. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

I am heading off this evening for the Evendale Fine Arts show. I have one painting in this juried show, no prizes but they jury to decide who gets in.

I still haven't been outside to paint, we have had a very wet and cool spring but I am not complaining as I still have my home unlike a lot of people down south.

Old Green Chair

Hi, We had our grand opening last night at our new studio in the Pendleton Art Center in Middletown last night. We had a big crowd, so much fun. We put out a huge table of food, I think we fed them too well. I think they were busy eating and not looking at the art, lol. Just kidding, it was very successful. We sold a total of 9 paintings last night and today, I sold one. One of the gals may also have a couple of commissions. I was hoping we might have a few sales so everyone would feel good about our decision to take this on. We will be open on First Friday each month as well as for special events.

This painting is 11 x 14, I painted this sweet old green chair that I have owned for years with a pot of tulips in the seat. It was fun to do. I didn't get a close up photo but it is pretty painterly with a lot of variation of color in the background A simple composition and I think I like the black frame on it.

Hello there, I painted this recently from a set up, it is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. Love painting sunflowers, I have really been on a flower kick lately. I think most people enjoy looking at flower paintings, at least I hope they do. Oh well, I paint what I love to paint not what I think will sell though that is oh so nice too.

Friday is the opening of our new gallery at the Pendleton Art Center, I am very excited. It has been lots of work getting ready, painting, hanging etc. etc. I'll be sure to take photos, the place looks just great.

White Roses

Hello there, I painted this recently from a set up, this is oil on a 11 X 14 Raymar panel. I have really enjoyed painting flowers lately. I try not to over analyze them and paint shapes and colors. I love impressionism and I am trying to keep them loose and use a palette knife to add some nice texture to them.

I'm very excited, a group of 14 artists from my Monday group have went together and rented a studio space. It is at the Middletown Pendleton Art Center and we only open for "First Friday" and "Second Look Saturday", so once a month. With so many involved if we could sell maybe 2 small paintings a year we will make our rent. Next Friday May 6th is the grand opening. So if you live in the Cincinnati area come by and see us.

Gravy Boat

Hi, I recently purchased this gravy boat from Ebay, they described it as being "flow blue". Not sure if it is but I love blue and white. This is my first time to paint it, the shape made it a bit challenging. I didn't plan for it to end up directly centered on the canvas but the left side of our brain wants things to be centered and spaced perfectly and I think it made me do it, lol. Funny how that happens, I sketched it out in thinned down paint first but as I made adjustments it moved somehow. I have started a larger painting using it again in a more elaborate set up and I am painting it so it definitely looks like flow blue. This is oil on a 8 x 10 canvas, not signed yet but I think it's done. A good attempt I think for my first try.

Red Tulips in Glass

Hello, I painted this a few weeks ago and had such a great time painting it, one of those paintings that kind of painted itself. Every once in a while it goes like that and it is such a pleasure. Glass can be great fun to paint, trying to paint the colors I see and then use the highlights to finish it off. I have an Analogous color wheel, google it if you aren't sure what it is. You choose your dominant color on the wheel and it shows you the complement color and two other colors called "discord", colors that you might use in a small amount to direct the eye where you want. This painting with the red and different purples are considered dominant and adjacent hues so hopefully it is pleasing to the eye. It is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Hi, I painted this a few weeks ago from a photo I took last summer while camping in Shawnee Park. This is oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel. Every now and then I have to paint something other than a still life, just every now and then, lol.

Hydrangeas

Hi, I am really into painting flowers lately aren't I? I love the color of this green vase and white or pink flowers are so soothing. I painted this last Monday when I met with my group and not surprising I painted some roses today. I will show you that one soon. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Exciting news. Twelve artists from my Monday group are going together to rent a studio space. It is in a new art center north of here. Each of us will have a small space to display our art and we will feature one artist for each of the twelve next months. Hopefully things will go smoothy but it is a small investment and worth a try.

Sharing Good News

Hello, I just wanted to share my good news, yesterday I was notified that I had been accepted into 2 shows. The first painting of the silver pitcher and apples was accepted into the 118th annual Cincinnati Woman's Art club show, I feel really honored to get into that one and it is the first time I entered. The second painting of peonies was accepted into the Evendale Fine Art Exhibit, it is an annual show also but the first time I have entered it. I should have taken a photo of the first one framed but hopefully at the opening this Sunday they will allow photos. I titled the first one "Memories of Grandmother" and the second one as you might expect "Peonies" lol.

As artists we put so much into our work and it is so great to feel that we are moving in the right direction. I love what I do and would do it no matter what but a pat on the back once in a while is wonderful.

Well spring is here and I love it, pretty soon I will be back outside painting.

Brass & Peonies

Hi there! More peonies and this isn't the last one either as I love painting them. This one is a bit larger, 11 x 14 on a Raymar panel. Love still lifes, bet you didn't know that, lol.

This Wednesday I am supposed to hear about the Womans Art Club show and if they accepted my painting and then on Friday I am supposed to hear about another show. I entered a painting in the online Raymar competition, I am way out of my league with that one but you have to try things, right? Some fantastic art is chosen to be finalists in the Raymar competition so I probably just donated to the cause.

Peonies in a Green Vase

Hello, I painted this on Monday while with my group, I brought it home and made a few adjustments as you always do and I like it very much. This is a very old wonderful green vase that belonged to my mother and I treasure it. It is kind of a gray green and I think I matched the color. I played with the peonies a lot adding pinks and blues and using my palette knife for texture. One of the adjustments I made was to blue down the back flower so it would recede. It is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Ironstone Pitcher with Sunflowers

Hi there! This was painted from a set up, sunflowers in an ironstone pitcher, oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I keep trying different things for my photos, I thought I was doing better with it until a friend pointed out last night she thought my photos were too dark. She takes her photos outside, I have tried that and I have tried taking photos in front of a north facing window. Daylight I find can be a bit harsh and not give you a realistic view of your colors. This one was taken my normal way, inside with a daylight lamp, I set my camera up on a tri-pod and used a timer so I am not touching it. We have to have so many skills to be an artist, ahhh. lol

I am starting to give some thought to what I will paint for the local arts festival, the application goes in early in August so I want lots of time to come up with two paintings I feel strongly about. This Thursday I drop off my painting for the Cincinnati Woman's Art Club show, fingers crossed hoping I get in. On Friday I will be doing a Art Walk in a town north of here. So many things going on this time of the year and I love it.

Cornfields

Hello, It has been almost a week since I posted, long time for me. I spent this weekend at the Montgomery Woman's Antique & Art show, their 38th annual I believe. It was a fun weekend and I sold 7 paintings. This painting I did while sitting there and it sold on Sunday wet on the easel. So after it dries and I varnish and frame it I will be delivering it to a very nice young couple. This is oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel.

I painted again today with my Monday group called MAPS, Mason Area Painters. We meet inside on Monday mornings and another day outside during good weather. I am so lucky to paint with such a nice group of artists and if you don't paint with a group in your area you should start one, I'm just sayin, lol.

Mortar & Pestle

Hello! Another one of my old collectibles, an antique wood mortar & pestle. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. I love anything old and wood and as you know I love to paint still lifes.

I have a show this Saturday and Sunday, the Montgomery Womans Antique and Art Show. It is at the Sycamore high school on Cornell Rd. in Cincinnati, stop by if you are in the area. I ordered some black gridwalls today, trying to make my set up look a bit more professional. Also I entered a painting in the Cincinnati Womans 118th annual art show, will be an honor just to get in. I'll let you know.

Jug & Brown Bottle

Hi, I painted this from a set up, a antique crock, little brown bottle and a twig of berries. I really liked the shadow the jug made and think that is a nice element in the painting. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas.

This Monday with my group we are going to set up a prop and do 4 ten minute paintings and then spend the rest of the time doing a one stroke painting. I got the idea from the challenge page that Carol Marine started. I think it will be a fun challenge especially the one stroke painting, trying to lay down a stroke and leave it alone. I always say the good thing about oils is they dry slowly and you can work with them a long time and the bad thing thing about oils is they dry slowly and you can work with them a long time, lol Meaning you can over blend them and create mud. I love them though.

Red Tulips

Hello there! Does this make you think of spring? It's coming, I promise. I painted this last week from a set up, oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas framed in a gold crackled frame from Dick Blick. I normally paint still lifes on Monday morning while painting with my group, sometimes we share a set up but most of the time I set something up inside a box with a light and do my own thing. I find the box works better than a screen because it blocks out all other sources of light and it is a room filled with windows. Have a wonderful weekend.

Catching the Light

Hi there! I painted this a few weeks ago from a set up. I painted a similar version of this a while back smaller and that one sold. This is 14 X 18 on a stretched canvas and framed in a wood gold crackled frame from Dick Blick. I love the color and shape of sunflowers, they always appeal to me in a painting. Getting ready for a Art walk this Friday night and in a couple of weeks I have a two day show and today I received a commission to illustrate a book so I'm keeping busy and out of trouble, lol.

Peonies

Hello again, I know I post very frequently but I paint so much. It gets a bit scary in my studio sometimes with sooo many paintings but I just keep going. I have too because I LOVE it and I want so badly to be really good at it one day. This one was painted from a set up. I bought these wonderful silk peonies and found this sweet brass pot at the thrift store. The little feet on the pot is what sold me on it, aren't they cute? I based in the peonies with a general color and then painted the whole background with dark colors, I went in then and added darks and light to the peonies and created the pot right into the very dark background. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas and framed in a gold crackled frame from Dick Blick.

Coffee Grinder #2

Hello! Well I painted my old coffee grinder again, instead of looking down on it I set it up to look straight on. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I took the photo with the painting framed this time, I think sometimes these dark paintings I do need to be shown in a frame. I always have said "frames are jewelry for our art" , that wonderful accent that you add at the end. I always love tucking them into a frame to see how they look.

Still life-Country Collectibles

Hello there, I think this is finished, I set up this old wood bucket along with one of my crocks and some pears to top it off. This is 11 X 14 on a Raymar panel. I used a palette knife on the bucket for some interesting texture. I put in the very dark background first but not in the area where my jug and pears would go so I could get some clean colors there. The bucket was painted into the dark area using those darks for the darkest part of it. It is still pretty wet so excuse the glare.

Just home from watching a demo by Chuck Marshall, a wonderful local artist. He painted a landscape for us, a wonderful snow scene.

Silver & Peaches

Hi there, My titles are so original, lol. This was painted from a set up, a silver gravy boat and peaches. I had some fresh peaches and loved painting them. I have a nice collection of fake fruit purchased mostly from Michaels but no peaches. I noticed last time I was there that they are even making fake sliced fruit now.

I think I am entering my painting "Silver & Apples" in a competition but will come up with a more interesting title, I'm open for suggestions. I posted it recently, not sure if it shows up on this current page or not.

After taking a break I'm back on Ebay again, I'm here there and everywhere, lol

Coffee Grinder

Hello there! I painted this recently from a set up. I am a big collector of primitive antiques and I have had this old coffee grinder for years. I painted it looking down on it but I am going to try it again soon from a different position. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. Share with me what surface you prefer to paint on please, stretched canvas, Raymar panel or do you cut your own? I really love Raymar panels, I purchase the smooth cotton. Check them out if you haven't, they are museum quality and they have wet canvas carriers too. I have a big supply of stretched canvases but I think I prefer the hard surface more, hmm.

Close Neighbors

Hello again, I painted this on Saturday while sitting at the arts fair, I like to keep busy and you know how I love to paint. This photo was taken here in town, a couple of sweet old houses that sit very close together. Oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I am busy painting small canvases for a show in March and I have the opening of "Dance with Me" this Saturday. I am really excited to be included, several people from my group submitted paintings but I was the only one accepted. See you soon

Teapot & Apples

Hello there, Yesterday I participated in the Northminster Fine Arts Fair here in Cincinnati. A well run event and the weather held off so we had a good attendance. The event is in two different rooms and in the basement, good food and live music all day. I always say I just want the opportunity to sell and I had that. I sold 3 small paintings, though there was a lot of people there I didn't see a lot of buying going on. I know that is a reflection of the times we are in, things are tough for most. So over all I'm pleased, I enjoyed the day and painted during the event.

This still life was painted last week with a set up, another one of my collection of teapots. I painted it on Monday morning while painting with my group and put it inside a box to block all of the other light sources and hit it with a small light. I have painted this teapot several times through out the years, it is fun to look back at some of those paintings and see my progress. The first time I did it the pot was flat and too hard edged. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. Have a great week!
