Still life, watermelon

Hello, I painted this today. It's in oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. I just love gray greens. Is it grey or gray, I think either one is ok. Stop by and visit me again soon. Thanks, Barb

Second Portrait I've painted

Hi, Thought I'd show you what I've been up to. This is the second portrait I've ever painted, the first was myself looking in a mirror. This is my mother, I painted it from a photograph of her. She's been gone about three years now and of course I still miss here terribly. I never thought I'd paint portraits but it's been fun trying something new. Enjoy your day. Barb

Creamer & Peaches

Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. This little painting is a 5 X 7. I see it's a bit blurry once again. I'm going to buy a new digital camera, I would like to spend around $200. Does anyone have suggestions on what kind of camera I should buy? I appreciate any advice you might have for me. Maybe when you visit my site my photos will be clear, that would be a change, lol. Have a great day! Barb

Same painting, few touch ups

My painting from yesterday. It really helps to photograph it and take a good look at it. I worked on the flowers a bit and I realized there wasn't anything behind it so I added something. Still not perfect but more good practice.

First time painting outside this year

What a beautiful day to be outside painting, life is good! I met a dear friend in a sweet town called Loveland, Oh. We sat up in front of this cute building, I think a canoe rental place? I tried to get the light and shadows quickly before things changed and lay the paint down and leave it alone. It turned out pretty good, could use a few touch ups which I may do tomorrow and re-post it. I thought I'd share it anyway. I've done worse, way worse, lol. Oh, it's on a 8 X 10 canvas board, oil of course.

Tea Time, 6 X 8

Hi, I painted this on a 6 X 8 Raymar panel and framed it in this lovely frame. One of the artists I've recently started visiting and love her work is Susan Carlin, she's a portrait painter and she's done several videos lately where you get to watch her paint. I really never thought I'd be interested in painting portraits but last night I sat with a mirror and painted my face. I'm not going to show it to you, it's a little scary but over all not too bad considering it's my first. I'm going to try it again but I have to find photos I like where the people are not smiling, I've always said the only thing worse than a bad portrait is a bad portrait with teeth, lol. Going to head outside tomorrow to paint, the first time this year. Our weather has been very slow warming up this year. I'm typically not very satisfied with the paintings I do outside but it's been a year so maybe I've improved. Have a great day. Barb

Still life 16 X 20

Hi, I painted this Thursday night and added a few more touches yesterday. It's painted on a 16 X 20 stretched canvas. I really enjoyed painting this one, it went together quick without any struggles. I like the looseness I have in the flowers. I have painted four 16 X 20 canvases so far, I have to choose two to enter into a juried show in August. Trying to give myself lots of options. See you soon.

Still life, oil 6 X 8

Hello, I painted this on a Raymar panel, 6 X 8. I found these items last week at a thrift store, I just love shopping for still life objects. So much fun to go in a antique or thrift store, the produce section at the grocery becomes interesting when you start painting still lifes also. I just keep adding to my collection, you can justify it because you NEED it, lol. Happy painting. Barb

Miniatures, the last of ten

Hi there, I finished the ten miniatures I was working on. They measure 3" X 4" and will be framed in gold 2" frames. I really enjoyed doing them, you finish fairly quickly and don't use a lot of paint. I custom ordered the frames and they ran me about $9 ea. so I think I'll be asking $35 each for the little guys, how's that sound?

Three more miniatures

Here are three more miniatures, I'm doing ten in total. They measure 3 X 4, I think they're cuter in person than in the photos. I think most things tiny are cute, is there any such thing as a ugly baby animal? Just returned for the 121st annual Cincinnati womans art show a couple of hours ago, it's a juried show and a lot of very good artists I know didn't get in. I couldn't believe they turned some of them down and let in some of the art I saw there. Not surprising huh?

Study in fabric, oil 8 X 10

Hi, hope you're all having a good day. I did this a few days ago, it was all about the fabric. Trying to make nice folds. How'd I do?

Oil, 16 X 20 changed a bit

Hi, I took this painting to my lesson today to have my teacher critique it. She felt the red apples really drew your eye there, sooooooo I brought it home worked on it and poof they're oranges. I need to always remember to turn my paintings upside down to see where your eye goes. I also took the one I recently posted called pink blooms, she said the peaches pull your eye too much, light against dark. So I'll have to give that one some thought too. This painting stuff is hard, lol. I've been taking lessons from her around seven months and she feels I've really improved, sometimes I'm not so sure. I'm not quitting though, you all can't get rid of me that easy. See you soon!
