Chickadees

Hi, I am hanging some of my art in a show in April and the subjects need to be nature related. So I decided to paint some birds, something fun and different. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched gallery canvas that is 1 3/8" thick. May not post for a couple of days, I am doing a portrait workshop Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully I'll come home new and improved and not overwhelmed. Never know if a workshop is going to help or set you back. Have a great weekend.

My Daughter

Hi,  I watched a dvd I have of Richard Schmid's the other night called The Captain.  He starts with the eyes and goes onto the nose and mouth.  He used bristle brushes, so close up there is a lot of texture in the face,  very interesting.  I tried to paint this the same way,  I started with the eyes and used mostly bristle brushes.  I may work on the skin a bit and smooth it out,  not sure.  I painted this in oil on a 11 X 14 canvas,  I think it looks like my daughter Brandy and I hope she does.  I painted her several months ago when I was just starting to paint portraits and this is sooo much better so hopefully several months from now I can do it again and be better yet.  That is my goal.  Have a great day!

Still life

Hi,  I decided to paint a still life,  it has been a while since I painted one.  I tried to pre-mix colors, something I have been wanting to try.  Kind of worked,  pre-mixed some and mixed others as I went.  I do see the advantage to pre-mixing,  probably keeps you from playing around in your painting too much and graying down your colors.  I set this up in a box,  small silver tray,  silver cream pitcher and a pear.  This is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.

A Treasure

Hi, I found this image on Wetcanvas.  I like her cupped hands,  can't see what is in there but you know it is precious to her.  This is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.

My New Pet- reworked

Hi,  I'm sure you all have thought a painting was finished and then you look at it for a while and think  "could be better". Soooo I worked on this more,  here is the original posting so you can see the changes.  I repainted her face,  changed the skin tones, the shape of her eyes and mouth. Brightened up her pink top and tried to make her hair look more like the sun was hitting it.  This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas.  See you soon

Thor

Hi there,  I painted this yesterday to give to our friends.  This is their beloved Thor who passed away a couple of weeks ago. They called him The Great Thor.  He was huge and quite the character,  when he laid on the couch he covered the whole couch. He was a doberman,  hopefully you can tell that.  They had given me a photo of him and I just painted it like it was,  I kind of liked the unusual composition. I think they will be touched and pleased with this, I think I captured him pretty well.   It is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.

Portrait

Bet you are not surprised to come here and find another portrait lol.   I painted this yesterday when I met with my group.  I am painting other things too,  I did a cat recently and the challenge for Karin Jurick.  I may post those soon,  I am a busy gal and loving it. This is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel.  I gessoed the panel and put in some black acrylic paint to start with a gray background. I recently purchased a dvd of Kinstler and he recommended the gray canvas.   I kept the background loose this time and I think I like it.  Happy painting~

Portrait 8 X 10

I keep trying to improve my portrait painting skills.  I am trying to put my darks in there and leave them alone,  hard to do sometimes.  I think about things like reflected light.  I know you can't tell from the photo but a bit of the green reflecting from his shirt is on his cheek.  I don't know this gentleman , the photo was taken from a calendar.  I painted him for practice because I liked the light and shadows on his face.  I really love creating a face.  Do you think I am improving? I'm going to keep at it because you know I just have to, lol.  Have a good day!
