Practice
Hi there, I just love the work of Carolyn Anderson , her portraits are very loose and wonderful. Your focus is on the face where it should be with just enough detail so you know what you are looking at. So looking at one of her paintings I painted this for practice, a good way through I quit looking at her painting and made adjustments I felt it needed. I have copied Old Masters and think it is a good way to really study how someone paints. I may try one of my grandson in the style and see how that goes. This is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel and is not available for purchase.

Portrait from my workshop
Hi, Well this is the portrait from my weekend workshop. This is oil on a 16 X 20 stretched canvas. The first day it did not look like her much, it really helps to walk away for a while or overnight. The second day I got my burnt umber back out and really tried to figure out why it didn't look like the model. I made changes where I saw them, had the teacher come over to check out my changes before I started back in on the color. She was very complementary all day, never made any changes to it and at the critique at the end seemed very pleased with what I painted. So now I have this somewhat large painting of this strange lady, lol. She is for sale if you need her hanging in your home. I have taken several workshops, I take a little away from each but once again I think the learning comes in just painting, painting, painting. Do you?

Portrait
Hello, I just walked in from my weekend portrait workshop. Lots of nice people and a Cincinnati artist named Carin Hebinstreit was the teacher. We had a model both days and we painted a 16 X 20 painting of her. I probably will post it soon. It went pretty good, she is new at giving workshops and tried very hard to help everyone. I don't think any of us nailed her image exactly but I think I did pretty well. Have to rest and think about what exactly I learned, I think we teach ourselves the most by just painting all the time. This painting I did last week, it is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel from a Wetcanvas image. Have a good day
