Old School House

Hi there, I painted this from a photo I took while out one day. This actually is an old school house, love the light on it. I like the soft loose feel it has, half way through I almost wiped it off but you have to hang in there. I have been enjoying using a palette knife a lot lately, I used a knife in the foreground and laid the paint on fairly heavy. One thing nice about oils you can lay in some heavy paint and create great texture. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas.

Barb, this is beautiful. I love the subtle shadow on the house and the sunlight falling on the grass. The greens of the grass are just wonderful! Don't be afraid of using darks, a little more contrast can only benefit your painting. Have you tried mixing viridian green and crimson alizarin? I find that it's a great substitute for black.

Hi Mary, Glad you like it. I mix a lot of different colors to create black without actually using black. I have tried the green and crimson, works nicely. I appreciate you checking in on me, hope you are well and happy.

Your houses and farm houses are definitely my favourites Barbara. You just catch the character of these places so beautifully.
