I may have mentioned this before but I paint weekly with two different groups. I chair the Monday group and I try to keep things interesting, I bring still life’s from time to time and sometimes we do things like this. I brought in a dvd by Craig Nelson on quick studies, I think that is his claim to fame. He paints three landscapes, a 20 minute one, a 30 minute one and a 40 minute. We watched his dvd and then headed off to try to do the same thing. Here are my efforts, left to right is my 20, 30 and 40 minute painting, all oils on 8” x 10” panels. He explains the reasoning behind it, color mixing, reacting quickly , brushwork and thinking about values. I actually like my 20 minute best, it felt fresher and I liked the brushwork better. It was fun, you should give it a try if you haven’t. Thanks for your visit, I really appreciate it.
