Pink Blooms

Hello, We are just back from a vacation to Florida, so great to get away from the cold for a bit. I had thought going down that I would do some plein air painting but instead I painted inside a few times. It sounds wonderful to paint on the beach but the reality of it is lots of sand everywhere, wind and sun so I wimped out, lol.

I painted this down there from a pretty silk arrangement that was in the place where we stayed, kind of hard to set up without my screen and light but I had fun. Oil on a 8 X 10 Raymar panel.

I took some good reference photos and will probably be painting some of those soon.

Back to cold snowy Ohio but good to be home. Happy Painting!

Catching the Light

Hello there, I painted this one last week from a set up. Tried to keep things dark and have the sunflower on the right catch most of the light. Oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I met Debra Bryant today while on vacation in Florida, she is a wonderful artist and although I felt I already knew her it was great to meet her in person. I have made so many wonderful online artist friends, I wish I could meet them all. Thank you Debra for your hospitality and of course the rum balls, yum!

Silver & Apples

Hi, I painted this last week from a set up of a silver pitcher and apples. Part way through I almost wiped it off but I pushed on and I am very pleased with it. Every once in a while you paint one and say to yourself "I love it"! and I love this, lol. This is oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel. I am wondering if a silver frame would look best on it, hmmm. I have painted several of these dark dramatic still lifes lately and when I look at them I find them very appealing, hope you do too. Have a great day!

Granny Smiths

Hello there, I painted this last week from a set up, a old copper teapot and some wonderful Granny smith apples. I wanted to keep things dark and the star of the show be the apples. I have been painting still lifes like crazy, I think when you are forced inside in the winter painting from a set up is great practice. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. Stay warm

Sorolla

Hi Everyone, This is a copy of a Sorolla, I didn't try to copy it exactly. I just brought his painting up on my monitor and freehanded everything. I try to paint from life as often as possible but when I do paint from a photo I like to paint from my monitor. If you are lucky enough to have a hi-resolution photo you can enlarge your subject and really see the details. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. I have 2 paintings completed for the show in February called "Dance with Me", when it gets closer I'll show you those. Have a wonderful weekend!

Still life- Blue & Brass

Hi there, Another still life keeping in mind some of the methods of C.W. Mundy. Sorry, there is a bit of glare in the photo. This is oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel.

I am taking several still life set ups with me tomorrow for my Monday painting group, I am trying to keep them on the simple side so we can complete them in one session. I tried to choose set ups with things that have a similar shape, again a suggestion from Mundy. So fun to try new things and see if they work for you. Have a great day!
