Teddy Bear

Hi and Happy New Year!
I have owned this little teddy bear for several years and was looking at it the other day thinking "I need to paint this". So today I set it up under a lamp and went at it. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I think it came out pretty good, love her sweet face. It is very wet so it may require a few more touches but we'll see.

I heard today from the gal I painted the two portraits of the boys recently , they are her grandsons and she had them painted for her daughter for Christmas. Her daughter and son in law loved them, so great to hear that. It is wonderful to do something that can touch someone's heart.

Old Jug & Sunflowers

Hi there, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, I had a great holiday. I am very blessed with a large wonderful family.

I painted this from a set up recently, you might recognize this jug as I have painted it before. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

I am plugging away on my painting of The Kiss, hopefully it will worthy of showing you at some point. Trying to make it my own so I keep making changes.

The holiday is over so it is back to painting, woo hoo.

Bright Sunny Day- Larger size

Hello there, I have decided maybe I should paint several somewhat larger pieces to have on hand. I have a art show in February and I think the larger pieces are a bit more impressive. This is large for me anyway, 16 x 20 which is really not large at all. I painted this on a 8 x 10 canvas recently so you may recognize it. I have started a new project, there is a local gallery near here that is having a juried competition. It has to be our interpretation of Klimt's painting The Kiss. I'll let you know how that goes, maybe I'll photograph stages of the painting as I go along. I have taken a few weeks off Ebay with the holidays and all. I hope your holiday projects are going well.

Brothers-commission

Hello, These two little fellows are brothers, they were commissioned by their grandmother as a gift for their mother for Christmas. The one is obviously a more traditional portrait and the other a fun photo of big brother in the pool. They are both oil on 8x 10 stretched canvases. Just sent off a painting of a cat for someone and I am working on a farmhouse but it doesn't have to finished until after Christmas. What is better than painting? Having someone love your work enough to want it hanging in their home. It is the best job in the world. See you soon.

Rays of Sunlight

Hi, I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I'm almost ready, decorations up and most of the shopping done. I am singing Christmas carols so maybe that is a sign that my stress level is low, lol. I took this photo recently, the sun was low and hitting the back of the house and barn. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I made some changes from the photo, actually some big changes. I put leaves on the trees and changed out the house from an older one story house to this farmhouse, you know how I love farmhouses. I have 4 paintings on Ebay, they go off Tuesday evening and could ship out Wednesday if you are still looking for a gift for that art lover in your family or a nice gift for yourself. Enjoy the season.

I'm outta here

Hello there, I started this painting months ago and worked on it again this week. The concept behind this is the same little fellow sitting still, starting to move and then leaving the scene. I hope it reads that way. I think if you want to suggest movement you either blur the subject or the background and I didn't do either. Hey, he stopped for a moment and then ran off, lol. This is oil on a 11 X 14 stretched canvas. I just finished two commissions, woo hoo. One is a cat and the other is a portrait of a little boy, I'll post those soon. I hope your day is going well.

Sunlight in the afternoon

Hi there, I painted this last week from a photo I took while traveling through a small town near here. The afternoon sun was hitting that orange building and the top of the trees. I think I am pretty pleased with this, another one that I may paint larger. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Still life- crock & apples

Hi there, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful for so many things and among them are the people that visit my blog. Blogging has been a wonderful addition to my life.

I painted this last week from a set up, I received this crock as a birthday present and had to paint it. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

I heard on the Christmas card competition, I was told that the representative loved my painting but didn't choose it because it was a church. I knew it wasn't "politically correct" but it was the image I wanted to paint. So I'm not too disappointed, it will be my Christmas card.

Bright Sunny Day

Hi there, You know how every now and then when you complete a painting you think "I like this"? Well, I like this, lol. I like the colors in the house and the impressionistic tree behind the house, this one has the burnt sienna toned canvas again. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas, I may give this another try on a larger canvas. Hope you like it too. Have a great day!

Christmas card contest

Hi there, I painted this for a competition, a local representative will be choosing a painting to be his Christmas card for this year. It has to be something from Warren Co. Ohio and a winter scene. I painted this very old church here in town and if they don't choose it I will use it for my card. There is a first, second and third place prize and if they choose yours you lose all rights to reproduce it. This church has a lot of history for my family, I grew up attending there, was married there and my father's funeral was there. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. Saturday night is the opening at the gallery here in town, I have one piece in the show. I'm excited just to have a piece hanging there. The show will hang until January.

My daughter's birthday gift

My grandson started school this year and I was there taking photos on his first day. I painted this triptych for my daughter depicting Michael's first day. I found the perfect frame to hold the three 5 X 7 paintings. The first little painting they were holding hands as the bus approached, the second she was helping him onto the bus and the last was when he came home in the afternoon. Her birthday was last Friday and I surprised her with this. This is my sweet Brandy holding the painting and here is a photo of the painting. Sorry there is a bit of a glare on the painting.

Gone Fishin'

Hello, I painted this a few days ago, taken from a photo I took while walking in the park. I combined his image with a photo I had taken someplace else. In the original photo of him he was walking along a concrete path and I thought the new surroundings had a better feel. A sweet elderly gentleman, he had his rod, tackle box and I loved the cuffed jeans. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. Have a great weekend!

Country Living

Hi, This is another painting that I toned the canvas with burnt sienna and allowed a lot of it to show through. I took this photo while traveling some of the rural roads in this area. My husband is normally driving and I yell things at him like "STOP" or "SLOW DOWN" or "BACK UP A BIT". He is so easy going, some of the things you have to put up with when you live with an artist, lol. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. See you soon

Oh by the way, I did get one piece into that juried show I mentioned on my last post, woo hoo.

Edouard Manet

Hi, I painted this looking at a painting by Edouard Manet titled Berthe Morisot. I brought it up on my monitor and it isn't an exact reproduction just my take on it. I have always loved this painting. I really like her interesting hat. When you google for the image one can look very different from the other as far as the amount of detail you see and the color in the painting. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. I submitted two paintings at a gallery here in town. It is a juried show and if I get accepted it will hang until the beginning of January. I'll let you know, keeping my fingers crossed. See you soon

Reflections

Hi, Tried something different on this one. I toned the canvas with burnt sieanna and allowed that color to show through on the finished painting. I think it gives it an impressionistic feel. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. Thanks for all the very nice feedback on my last post, the painting of my grandson. I appreciate all of the people that visit my blog and I am always very excited when I see a new comment.

My Grandson

Hi there, I took this photo several weeks ago of my grandson after a ball game. He sat down and turned his hat around. I took the first photo and he grinned and said "cheese", then he relaxed and put his hand up to block the sun and I took this one. You get much better photos if people aren't posing I think. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. Hope you are enjoying your day!

Landscape

Hello, I painted this from a photo I took in the park near here, I really like this panoramic view. This canvas measures 8" X 16" on a stretched canvas. Fall is really wonderful this year, I hoped it would be with such a wet summer. Drove around yesterday taking photos, the sun was out and the colors were breathtaking. Hopefully I have some good painting references. Enjoy your day!

Pumpkin

Hi there, I painted this pumpkin for a decorating contest next weekend. It was really fun and different. So much work into something that will rot, lol. It is oils so hopefully it will be dry in time, if not I have a pumpkin to use here or take to the grandchildren. It is a large pumpkin and a bit heavy to move around, after I finished I thought "hey a lazy susan would have worked great for this". I recommend painting a pumpkin, you should try it. Have a good day!

Just wanted to let you know my pumpkin took a ribbon for scariest pumpkin, wooooooo

Landscape

Hi there, This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas, painted from a photo I took north of here. Lots of nice texture in this, I seem to use a palette knife more all the time as I especially like the great texture I get in the foreground. I have several possible commissions in the works, I guess I will get them all at once and be crazy busy closer to Christmas. Oh well, glad to have them. Back to the studio. Have a great day!

Waiting Patiently

Hi, I worked on this the last few days and it may be finished. This was painted from a photo I took recently, I really liked the gals hat and all the extra things tied to her handbag. This is oil on a 8 X 10 Raymar panel. Not sure of the name yet, maybe you can help me. Of course "Waiting Patiently" is one option, another is "Making Plans" or maybe you have a good suggestion. I am considering entering this into a juried show at the end of the month, maybe???

Old School House

Hi there, I painted this from a photo I took while out one day. This actually is an old school house, love the light on it. I like the soft loose feel it has, half way through I almost wiped it off but you have to hang in there. I have been enjoying using a palette knife a lot lately, I used a knife in the foreground and laid the paint on fairly heavy. One thing nice about oils you can lay in some heavy paint and create great texture. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas.

Madison Indiana

Hi there, Last year we went to visit a sweet little town called Madison, Indiana, this is one of the photos I took while we were there. I'm sure it looks like a house you might find in many towns all over this country. As usual I was drawn to the sunlight hitting the side of the house. This is oil on a 5 X7 canvas panel, a little one.

Two Plein air paintings

See, I did get outside this summer to paint, well a couple of times anyway. Fall is coming so maybe I will get to paint some of the fall colors. I painted the first one in the park behind where I live and the second when we were camping. They are both oil on 8 X 10 panels. The local festival was this past Sunday, I sold two paintings and I received a ribbon for an honorable mention. A good day and I have several paintings hanging there for the next month.

Another farmhouse

Having a great time lately painting these old farmhouses, this is oil on a 8 X 10 panel. This is somewhere in Ohio, I am constantly taking photos while we are out and about. I am also posting a photo of me that was in the newspaper, a plein air event I did recently. Enjoy your day!

Tap Shoes

Hi, I had such fun painting the little mary janes that when I found this pair of tap shoes at the thrift store I thought I needed to paint them. I put gold ribbon in them and tied large bows, I think that works. This is oil on a 5 X 7 panel.

The Warmth of the Sun

Hi, Another old farmhouse for your viewing pleasure, lol. This is oil on a 8 X 10 panel. I painted this from a photo I took, I love white houses with the sunlight on them.
