Update, Little Ballerina

Hi again, I am posting my Little Ballerina painting again because I wanted to show you the painting in the frame I may use and couldn't figure out how to add it to my last post.  Anyway here it is again, do you like this frame?  One of these days I'll figure this out, well maybe. Lol

be, lol

Little Ballerina

Hi, sorry I haven't been posting as frequently as I would like. I've been very busy with shows and commissions. I have worked on this piece off and on for a while, it's 16" X 20" painted with the Cobra oils.  She has went through a lot of changes, I wanted it to be painterly and it might be finished.  I'll be taking it for critique when my group meets back up in a few weeks and I'll see if they like it. Critiques are really essential I think, I think sometimes you are just too close to see things. I listen to their comments and may or may not make changes, after all it's my painting.

Merry Christmas to all of you, thank you all for
following my artistic journey this year,I'm still lovin it.

Where I will be this weekend

Hi Friends, I wanted to share this fun event with you. This weekend at the Cincinnati Women's art club in Mariemont they have a wonderful annual event called Showcase of Arts. Very upscale and a great place to shop for Christmas. I am doing this, my first time. I'll be bringing lots of small things, ornaments, small framed paintings and small paintings on box canvases. It will be my last show this year so everything is reduced. Out with the old and in with the new. I need room in my studio, ah! Lol

Hope to see you there!

Commission

Hello there, finished this commission recently and thought I would share it with you. It is 10" x 10" on a stretched canvas.  Always a bit stressful when you share it with the client but she responded "it's perfect!"  I love that.

Nancy Franke's workshop

Hi, Wednesday we drove down to Gainesville Ga. For a workshop with Nancy Franke. I have loved and admired Nancy's work for years and tried to get into one of her workshops last year.  This was about an hour north of Atlanta so one very long days drive each way.  This was two days but I wish it had been longer.

Nancy is just a ball of energy and I loved it.  There were fifteen in our class and she ran from person to person offering instruction and wiping things with her finger, lol. She started with a demo, I have included some photos of that.  She started with a paper towel, it was pretty much an abstract painting to start, I think that a great way to end up with a loose painting.  We painted on linen panels and though I normally use stretch canvases that may have converted me. More expensive but I like the way you can wipe paint off of them.  I came home with six practice paintings, here are five of them, the one with the four small paintings took maybe ten minutes each, all of the others are about an hour.  I made notes after the workshop so I wouldn't forget anything. I have some pet commissions to finish and then I'll be doing still life's and putting some of this into practice. Totally loved the experience and I'm hoping to get her to Cincinnati to teach a workshop.

Palette knife kitty

Hi, I painted this cat in oil in a 10" x 20" deep gallery canvas. I based it in with a brush and then went over the whole thing with a palette knife.  I painted this for a event I have the third weekend in October called Petcaso.  It raises money for pets in need in the Cincinnati area. I'll be there set up to sell and this weekend the first weekend in October I'll be at Lakota West high school at a juried arts and craft show. I think it's like their 38th year, I know most painters stay away from crafty type shows but I am hoping my small paintings will go over well.

This week we camped in Holmes county Ohio, it's an area with lots of wonderful Amish farms. I think I got some great reference photos that I'm looking forward to painting, watch for those.

Thanks for coming by

I love old houses

Hi! Recently we camped near Yellow Springs Ohio and I ran around town shooting photos of wonderful old houses.  The picket fence drew me to this one.  There was a sidewalk in front but I made the decision not to include it.  This is water miscible oils on a 8" x 10" canvas.  Doing pretty well with the new oils, still miss tipping my brush into solvent but I'm hanging in there.  I've noticed they dry shinier than traditional oils.

I painted this Saturday in Loveland Ohio with the Ohio Plein Air Society, I painted this painting of Rose of Sharon, I felt like doing flowers that day.  This also is the water miscible oils and is a 8" x 10" as most of mine are.

Good to see you!

Quick Draw

Hi! Every month on second Saturday in a sweet town near me they have a street fair.  The town is Waynesville Ohio and they have art contest during the street fair.  This month was a quick draw, we had three hours to paint or draw.  I chose to paint and completed mine in plenty of time. I worked with my water miscible oils on a 8" x 10" canvas.  I always frame them even though they are wet as I think they show better.  Great news is I won People's Choice and First Place.  Such a great day, I left the painting in a local gallery for the month.  Next month is plein air and we have most of the day to paint, I'll be there.  Here's my painting, a cute shop that just happened to have this bicycle in front with buckets of flowers attached,

Still life

Hi Friends, painted this one not too long ago, it is oil on a 11" x 14" stretched canvas.

I recently switched to Cobra water miscible oils.  They are oils in every way but the linseed oil in them breaks down with water so they are soap and water clean up. I decided to try to paint healthier and make the switch. You need to stay out of the water if you use them, mixing them with water isn't a good idea as the water evaporates and they become sticky. They make linseed oil for them you can mix throughly into the paint to thin them.  I plan to stay with them. I will keep you posted.

I donated a painting to the Mason Historical Society of their old fire truck Old Betsy.  They auctioned it off at the ice cream social Tuesday night and all of the proceeds went to them, $660 , not bad. I am selling prints if you live in the area and you are interested let me know.

Good to see you!

Hi there!  This is one of two paintings I entered in the Woman's art club show, they only may take one and they chose the other.  I was very happy to be chosen, it's their 122nd annual show.  My painting sold, actually twice.  I had to paint it a second time for another lady. It was the two white ducks I posted a while back.  This painting is oil on a 8" x 10" canvas, painted from life.

This Friday night in Evendale Ohio I have two paintings in the Evendale art show, it's only hangs for the weekend but it's such a nice show.

Brush & Palette show

Hello! I paint with a group of ladies every Tueday called the Brush & Palette Painters. The group formed over 50 years ago and I'm proud to be a member. Every March we hang a show of our paintings at the Cincinnati Women's Art club in Mariemont. Friday night was our opening, such a fun night and our opening was well attended.  Yesterday myself and two other ladies from our group went back down and painted while we chatted with people that came by to see our show. I find that the majority of people that come to see you demo are artists and I'm happy to share any pointers with them I can. Please visit our show if you live near Cincinnati or come to visit.

Here I am painting and this is a photo of my finished painting. 8" x 10" oil

Reworked this one a bit

Hi there, this painting is oil on a 8" x 10" canvas. I painted this one from a set up, I love painting from life. I looked at it for a while and found it kind of boring so went back in and added color and softened things up. I'm liking it now.

Thanks for visiting me on this cold winter day.

Trying new things

Hi Friends, sorry I haven't been posting as often but I am busy painting.  I started this still life a few weeks ago, it's oil in a 11" x 14" canvas.  It was fine, just fine.  Sometimes I think it isn't enough to to just paint well you need to be a bit different.  Anyway I went back into this adding soft color over the whole painting and then going back and tweaking a few areas.

I have several things coming up.  This Thursday I am in a show called " Tiny" , I painted three 4" x 4" paintings for the show and they all were accepted.  I just entered two other shows and the whole month of March my Tuesday group The Brush & Palette Painters will have a show at the Cincinnati Womens Art Club.

Thank you for visiting

Pets

I enjoy painting animals and I find them easier to paint than some things with their definite blocks of color.  I say that but that doesn't mean it's easy. I find that people really enjoy viewing paintings of animals too.  This beautiful cat belongs to our co-op owner, actually this is one of two cats that live at the co-op.  The dog belongs to a man I attended school with, he posted it on Facebook and I loved the image and he gave me permission to paint it.  The cat is 8" x 8" and I'll be taking it along to sell at the Northminster Art Fair next Saturday.  The dog is wet but it's available if you're interested. It is 8" x 10" and both are oil.

So good of you to come by
