Commission

Hi there and Happy New Year, I had to squeeze some painting time into this holiday or I would go crazy, lol I just completed this commission for a gentleman in Kentucky. They raise these sweet dogs and they were a joy to paint. This is 16 x 20 and painted in acrylics. Wishing all of you a wonderful new year filled with happiness and good health.

Geraniums

Hello Friends, I hope you are all ready for Christmas, can't believe it is a few days away. These two paintings are similar, painted looking at the same flowers but one is a horizontal 8" x 10" and one a vertical 5" x 7". Red flowers are such fun to paint. Just heard that I was accepted into the Northminster Fine Art Show on February 1st, working on small paintings to take along. Trying to offer affordable small paintings, hopefully they will be more likely to sell. So good of you to stop by. Merry Merry Christmas!

Purple & White Iris

Hello, The event at Whole Foods went pretty well. There were not a lot of people that showed up for the art but I still sold three paintings so not too bad. This one is a little 4" x 4", I just love these black frames. I just received news I was accepted into a show for February 1st. I am busy and happy, painting and painting some more. I have lots going on and that is wonderful. I hope all of you are enjoying this holiday season. Hugs

Rooster

Hello Friends, I painted this rooster in my new style, painted with a palette knife into very wet paint. I had fun with it and let his tail run a bit even. This is fluid acrylics on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I think he is interesting, do you? I hope you are enjoying the holiday season, I'm not ready but I will be. I have to be! lol Thank you so much for checking in on me.

Christmas Still Life

Hi there, I did a few still life paintings using these little ornaments, it is challenging getting them to feel like the little reflective balls that they are. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 canvas. We are hanging a show called "Winter" at Sinclair College the beginning of January and I plan to include this painting. Just a reminder that I will be at Whole Foods in Mason this Wednesday night from 6-8. I have a nice selection of small paintings that would make wonderful Christmas gifts, they start at $35. There is a wine tasting event going on during that time for $5 for anyone that is interested.
Have a wonderful day

Tulips

Hello, I just love painting tulips, you probably knew that, lol. This painting is a mix of many flowers but the tulips are the star of the show. This is acrylic on a 10" x 10" stretched canvas. This painting will be shown at Whole Foods in Mason next Wednesday the 11th from 6-8. Struggled to get a photo that really depicted the color. I hope you are having a wonderful day.

Big Changes

Hello Friends, This acrylic painting started out as a very traditional fine art painting. I had painted a green vase with salmon colored flowers in it. It was fine, just fine and kind of boring. So I thought what do I have to lose and painted this in my new style, letting the colors run and just having fun. I tweaked and tweaked and think I have it where I want it and I think it is pretty interesting now. I am open to suggestions for a title. This is a 8 x 10 and as you can see I have it in a black frame. Thanksgiving has come and gone and I have so much to be thankful for including you, the wonderful people that visit my blog. I hope you are having a wonderful day.

"Wisteria"

Hi there, Thanksgiving is almost here, gosh Christmas is next! This painting is acrylic on a 10" x 10" stretched canvas and I plan to frame this one. I will be taking this along to Whole Foods on December 11th along with a lot of small affordable ones. I guess this could be Lilacs too, it is whatever you want it to be. I am so enjoying my painting journey, more than ever. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Thanks for visiting me

Red & Purple

Hello, I love red and purple together, such rich vibrant colors. This is another painting in my new style, this one is 10" x 10". It is so wonderful to find something new and exciting like this to spice things up. I have never hit a road block with painting as there are so many things I want to paint but this new style has me up at night, lol I hope you are enjoying your day.

Golden Fluid Acrylics

Hello, I have been painting seriously for quite a few years now and I have concentrated mostly on fine art although as you may remember I do paint the occasional mixed media piece. I have decided at least for now to focus on doing what I enjoy the most and right now this is it. I painted this little 5 x 7 painting with Golden Fluid Acrylics and allowed them to roll around on the canvas and intermix with each other. I then added flowers working with a palette knife so it is kind of an abstract floral painting. I have painted maybe 10 in this style so far and I am having a ball. I am sure it isn't everyones taste but I love the color and juicy look of them, I am varnishing them in gloss varnish to bring that wet look back up. I will be participating in a event soon and will get them out in the public eye and hopefully get some feedback and maybe a few sales too. I feel like this style is more contemporary and may possibly appeal to a younger crowd? Who knows, I paint because I love it so but a few sales to keep you going is really nice. What do you think? Have a great day

Teddy & Blooms

Hi there, I think some paintings go together like a puzzle. I always try to plan them out and I mostly paint from life. This painting started out with the vase of flowers and a couple of pumpkins, I painted it from a set up with my Monday group. I liked the flowers but wasn't feeling the pumpkins so I thought what would work well there. I have had this little teddy for years and have painted it before and thought lets try that. I am pretty happy with it and wanted your focus to be on the bear as I think it is. The only thing I would have changed if I had set this up to paint is I would have placed the bear in front of the flowers. This is acrylic on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas. Thank you so much for visiting me, I love your comments. Hugs

Early Winter Sky

Hi Everyone, Recently while traveling near here I took the reference photo for this painting. I thought the title suited it perfectly, one of those powerful skies and you can tell winter is approaching. The grass glowed catching just a bit of sunlight. This is acrylic on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas, a standard size to frame. I am offering this with a buy now option through Paypal for $85 and $5 shipping only within the continental US. I am busy working on competition pieces and other things but there might still be time for a commission of your pet or home, email me if that might interest you at barbarapask@zoomtown.com
Have a wonderful day friends.

Painting for Holiday Card Show?

Hi there, For the last several years I have entered paintings in a competition for a holiday card show. Representative Pete Beck chooses a painting to be his image for his holiday cards and the painting hangs in his office. Two years ago I won and was thrilled, such an honor. We can submit 3 paintings and this may be one of the 3 I submit this year. I will paint until I run out of time and choose when it gets closer, the reception is December 2nd. This is acrylic on a 11" x 14" stretched canvas. I read a wonderful quote today by Winston Churchhill that I thought really described the life of an artist. "In order to be happy you need to find a task that requires perfection, is impossible to achieve and spend the rest of your life trying to achieve it". Thank you for checking in on me. Hugs

Baby Shoes for my niece

Hi there, My niece is ready to give birth any day now to two little girls. I am beyond excited as it has been 18 years since a little girl was born in our family and now we get two. We had a baby shower for her a while back and of course I purchased many of the things off her registry but I wanted to give her a little something when the babies were born. She loved Winnie the Pooh when she was little and I saw these baby shoes at a thrift store a while back and thought how cute these would be to paint for her. The babies room is green with bright pink accents so as you can see I painted the background green and added pink details. I think the white frame works and I am hoping she will love this. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 canvas. Bought her a precious antique pink elephant vase too, going to put some tiny flowers in that when the time comes. Have a wonderful day

A Secret

Hello Friends, I haven't posted in a week or so, I have been pretty busy lately. Last Saturday night I was the featured artist at a local gallery and then Sunday was my birthday and the opening of the Woman's Art Club member show. I painted Monday and then we left camping that afternoon. Whew, life is good. These 2 little 5 x7 paintings were submitted to "Secret Artworks". Secret Artworks is part of Artworks in Cincinnati an organization that does many many things including among them is painting murals all over the city. Secret Artworks happens annually and it is by invitation only so I am pleased to be a part of it. One evening in November people purchase tickets that give them a open bar, unlimited snacks and they get to choose a little painting. I donate the paintings and do not sign them on the front so they do not know the artist until they choose their little painting. I have done this event for the last 4 or 5 years and it is really fun to watch the crowd rush in and look for a specific painting as they have them online to preview and for a week in the Westin Hotel to view. Thanks for visiting me, I was talkative today wasn't I? lol Sorry about that.

"Fields of Yellow"

Hello there, I had fun painting this, I used a pastry brush for most of it and then came in at the end and added the clouds with a smaller brush. There is a gentleman I have watched paint online several times and he uses only a pastry brush, he does some amazing things with that brush. I think trying new things can spark something new in us. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I am offering it on a buy now option, $65 plus $5 shipping anywhere within the continental US. Standard size to frame, very easy.

Still Life with Apple

Hi there, Last Monday my group and I painted still lifes. I think painting from life is the very best thing we can do as artists. Photos are fine to paint from and sometimes we have no choice but to see an object in 3-D is so much better. I find still lifes to be wonderful to paint, you can design your painting by the choice of props and the way you set them up and decide about your light source and direction. I completed this pretty much during our session and it was fine, by fine I mean a good depiction of my set up but it was a bit boring. I brought it home and laid on heavier paint and pushed it around creating much softer edges and I like it much better now. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I am offering this on a buy now option through paypal for $65 plus $5 shipping anywhere within the continental US. This is a standard size and very easy to frame.

Colors of Fall

Hi there, On my trip to Tennessee we stayed near the home of Laura and painted in her wonderful large studio. She sent me home with a box of assorted items and one of them was this very cool brush. It is kind of like a scrub brush, you don't paint with it you apply the paint and push it around with this. I have been working on a larger painting using the brush, adding layer after layer and scrubbing it around. I used the brush on this smaller painting too and I like the effect, soft and loose. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I am offering it with a buy now option through Paypal for $65 and $5 shipping anywhere within the continental US.
Have a wonderful day, Fall is here.

Flowers in Ball jar

Hello there, I have painted this little green jar many times but I love it, it's like a little jewel. I started with a much more saturated background but ended up graying down the color and it makes the more saturated colors just pop. I remember reading an article in a art magazine by Scott Burdick and someone wanted to know what shade of red he had used in one of his paintings. They thought he wasn't being honest as their red did not look like his even though it was the same color. His red popped because he surrounded it with grayed down colors. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. This is available on a buy now option through Paypal. It comes to you unframed and is $65 with $5 shipping anyplace within the continental US. Thank you for visiting.

Our adventure to Tennessee

Hi there, For about the last 7 years or so I have chatted online with a wonderful group of fellow artists. The nicest ladies from several different states. We have always wanted to meet so we made plans months ago to meet in Spring City Tennessee where one of the artists lives. There were 7 of us and the furthest was from San Antonio. We had a wonderful time getting to know each other better and of course painting together. We mostly painted inside at Laura's wonderful studio and one day we went to a park and painted plein air. One of the gals Marilyn is involved with "Healing Ceilings" where artists paint ceiling tiles to replace the white ones in a cancer treatment center. A few of us completed a panel to send home with her and some of the ladies took panels home to paint and send back to Marilyn. They are 2ft by 2ft and I painted poppies on mine, that seemed like a happy thing to look up at and enjoy while getting treatment. I'll include a photo of it here but it was taken very quickly and there is some glare on the bottom. The first photos shows our happy group the first morning out at Laura's wonderful log home and her sweet dog Tommy who was thrilled to have us there, I am the one with the glowing white hair, lol. I completed 5 paintings and one tile and a few of them will be painted over, lol The third photo is one of the still lifes I completed. I am still amazed this all worked out and everyone made it safe and sound. Now when we chat online I hear their voices in my head, lol. I hope all of you are blessed with this kind of experience in your life. Hugs

My Book Arrived

Hi there, A while back I entered a competition through North Light Books. I entered a painting of mine called "Wedding Dress", it is a mixed media piece with patterned acid free paper, lots of texture and then I painted my dress in acrylics. The painting was accepted and was to be included in a book due out the end of September. I had to jump through a few hoops but was thrilled. I kept thinking I'll believe it when I see it. A while back Amazon had the book available and I could see my name and page number in the preview and I thought "Yea it's going to happen". Well here it is, it arrived a few days ago. Woo hoo I'm published.

New painting ~ still life

Hello there, I paint with a gal that brought me two old violins and she had planned to throw out. They are both missing parts but I was so excited because I always wanted to paint one. I chose the better of the two and it is a wonderful red color. I painted it once, didn't like the set up so I painted it out and tried it again. I added a close up photo so you can see how the tulip reflects in the strings. This is acrylic on a 11" x 14" canvas. I plan to enter it in the members show of the Cincinnati Woman's Art Club. Thinking a gold frame?? Enjoy your day

Hubby's Favorite Boots

Hello, My husband and I have been married 31 years and the first gift I bought him was a pair of L.L.Bean boots. I asked one of his best friends for advice and he suggested the boots. He loves these boots and calls them his "beaners", they have been re-soled once and they have seen a lot of hunting miles. I painted these for a competition, a show of woman painting men, anything related to men. I thought this seemed like the perfect thing to paint, they sure make me think of my man. I painted this in acrylics on a 16" x 20" stretched canvas and had a ball painting them. I'm pretty pleased with them and they passed the hubby test, lol. Hope you enjoy seeing them. Have a great day and stop back again soon.

I've gone Western

Hi there, Well this is sure different for me isn't it? I went to Pop Revolution and they had a still life set up of western items. I loved the leather bag and tried several things next to it that evening and I wasn't happy with any of them. I brought the painting home with only the leather bag painted and decid
ed the cowboy hat and gun worked well in the painting. I love the warm look of leather. I have a friend that has a saddle and has offered that to me to paint and at some point I my give that a go. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel. I am ready for Fall and ready for some cooler weather, the trouble with Fall is that winter is right behind it though. Have a great day and stay cool

Kayak & Canoe Rental

Hi there, A few weeks ago while we were camping in Stonelick Park I painted this. Campgrounds look pretty much the same and it can be challenging to find something I want to paint sometimes. I always like to get out if possible and try a little plein air and we were lucky enough to be camping by the lake and right across from this scene. I loved the red canoe and the little blue kayaks were glowing in the sun. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 museum quality Raymar panel.. Email me anytime you see something posted you might be interested in purchasing. As you can see I added a buy now button to this, you can purchase it through paypal for $75 and free shipping within the continental US.
Have a wonderful day

Poppies yet again

Hello sweet visitors to my blog, today for your viewing pleasure I have a painting of poppies yet again, lol I'm being silly, sorry. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I really tried to keep this painterly and let the brushstrokes show. I wanted to suggest the distant poppies and make the closer ones a bit more detailed. Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you are having a wonderful day.

Roses on the Porch ~ Plein Air Competition

Hello there, I took this photo a while back, the roses caught my eye on the front porch of an old house. I left the porch post in the painting because I thought it added more depth to the painting. This is acrylic on a 11" x 14" stretched canvas. Saturday I attended a plein air competition in Waynesville Ohio. Waynesville is a sweet historic town filled with sweet old buildings. I sat across from this blue house and spent my day painting it, acrylic on a 8 x 10 canvas. I framed it quickly and took it to the tent to be juried. The judge was wonderful, he called up every artist individually and critiqued their painting. He only had nice things to say about mine so I was hopeful it would win something. My great news is I took first place! I forgot my camera and a friend provided me with this, I'll get a better photo later. I left the painting in a gallery in town for the next four weeks. I love to paint so but it sure is up and down, sometimes I think I do not need another painting
and then something positive happens like this. I'll just keep painting and learning. Thanks for visiting me

Pears ~ mixed media

Hi there, This painting is a mixed media piece. I started with patterned acid free paper which I proceeded to cover up, lol I added the pears and then felt it needed something else and completed it with the stenciled pattern. I am going to frame it in a copper frame and there are copper touches in the pears. This is painted on a 11" x 14" stretched canvas. This Saturday I will be in Waynesville Ohio painting in a plein air event assuming we don't get rained out. Saturday night is Second Saturday at Gallery 42 also from 5-9. I'll be there too if I have any energy left. Gallery 42 is in Mason Ohio, stop by. Have a good day!

Triptych

Hello there, I painted this on three 10"x 30" deep panels, so it measures 30" x 30" tightly together. In the cropped shot you can see some of the raised designs that are in the painting. This is painted in acrylics.
These are the 1 1/2" deep canvases so they will not be framed. I will be taking these over to the Pendragon model home in August when we change out and freshen the art. I'm open to name suggestions if you have any, you know how I struggle with names. Fantastic weather here lately and I should be out painting, next Saturday I do plan to attend a plein air event in Waynesville Ohio. Waynesville is a very old historic town, stop by then if you are in the area. Have a wonderful day friends.

"Banana Split Anyone?"

Hi there, I was trying to come up with a clever name, I'm so boring, lol. It was going to be "Bananas and Cherries" and I thought this was cuter. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas, my favorite size or it must be because most of my paintings are that size. I think this is the first time I have painted bananas and had a great time doing it. Please take time to comment, I love hearing from you.

Still life painting at Pops

Hi there, Every third Thursday of the month Pop Revolution a local gallery has open painting. Most weeks they have models but once in a while they set up a still life. This was painted a while back, they set up a very elaborate still life with a music theme. I painted a small section of the set up so I could finish in the 3 hours provided. Experience told me to keep it simple so I wouldn't get overwhelmed. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. It is always a fun challenge to paint glass. Most people in the group sketch but I always bring my paints along, much more fun for me. So great of you to stop by.

Old Crock & Cherries

Hi, sorry if this isn't perfectly clear, I had issues, lol. I purchased this crock recently, I did not need another crock but look at it! hehe I loved it, it has a kind of bell shape and I loved the little spout. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. Heading out tonight to paint a live model, always a great challenge. Wow this heat is terrible, I hope you are staying cool wherever you are. Thank you for visiting me.

Lovely Poppies

Hello, Poppies are my favorite flower to paint, well I think so anyway. Well today anyway, lol This is the Golden Fluid acrylics on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. Played around with a kind of abstract background first and then laid in the poppies. I added those brighter highlights at the end focusing on just a few. Please take time to enlarge the photo by clicking on it, the colors are brighter and truer to life. Tomorrow night is Second Saturday at Gallery 42 in Mason Ohio. I will be there, if you are in the area stop by. Hours are 5-9. I have several paintings exhibited there, excited to join a wonderful group of fine artists. Have a wonderful day friends.
