Red Brick Home-plein air

Hi there, We have a wonderful artist named Chuck Marshall who lives in our town and he is trying to get artists to paint outside on our main street all summer. He wants to bring more awareness to the arts and I'm all for that. So several people from my Monday morning group has been getting out there at least once a week. All of the pieces have to completed on site and I think in August they will display our pieces in a gallery in town. I have completed 4 so far and am having a great time, little hard not to play with them when you get them home, lol. This is one of the gorgeous old houses on Main St., I loved the shape of the roof line. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas, if you keep up with me you know most of my paintings are that size. It's a nice size for painting plein air, not too large but can look impressive in a nice frame.

Happy 4th of July! **** Those are fireworks, lol.

I continue to learn things about this blogging world. I have discovered that if you just follow my blog you don't receive and email when I make a new post. So if you would like to be notified when I post you need to put your email address into that little box for google groups. Thank you

Very nice, Barbara. I haven't ventured out with my new easel/box yet. I think I need to practice with it in the yard first. I know, I'm chicken......

Hi Barb! I see you are doing great and fun things this Summer too. Our group will have to do that in the wintertime, since it is nearly unbearable in the Summer heat. I am really drawn to the red in this lovely plein-aire painting. Your handling of the windows is just beautifully done. Thanks for sharing these artworks of yours. :)

You should try it Carol, always the best practice to paint from life. Outside can be overwhelming but don't give up it's gets better.

Glad you like it Debra, hard to tell from the photo but I laid the paint on the red house with a palette knife. We have had some hot weather too but I'm sure it's nothing compared to yours. I have stood out there in the 90's and that is very hot to me but I'm not stopping, lol.

Love the shapes in this house. I can see why it was fun to paint.

Great idea to paint the town!!

Hi Linda, Yes, I was drawn to the side of it because of the shape and the light. Get out there and paint your town.

Hi Barbara, I was wondering how long you have to complete a painting like this. I have not taken my easel outside yet. I am afraid in our heat by the time I got set up, i would be wanting to leave. Been in the high 90's here in KY till this week. I truly applaud those who can paint outside in all kinds of weather.

Hi Sunny, So nice of you to visit my blog. I'm in Ohio and we have had that kind of heat lately too. I think I spent about 3 hours on this, we just paint until we have had enough. I try to finish it so I don't have to go back but that is an option too of course. If you try it get out early before it gets too hot. It is a good exercise no matter how it goes. You have to choose a subject and paint quickly and try not to chase the light. It's only paint, right? Easy said, I know we want them all to be masterpieces don't we? Please visit again.
