Quaint Town
Hello, I took the reference photo for this painting last week, we went away for a few days. I love my digital camera, I take photos like crazy while we are driving along. Trouble is I don't know exactly where this is, I just loved the look of this old building at the intersection. This is the reason I am enjoying acrylics because of all the detail you can get in a painting. I like to work quickly and to get detail like this in a oil painting you have to work in layers and allow things to dry. This is painted on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Blue & White
Hi there, I painted this a few weeks ago from a set up. I purchased this blue and white vase at a wonderful consignment shop near me. I have to say the shape of it made it very challenging and I don't think I quite nailed it. This is oil on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas.
I have a busy week next week, painting on Monday, picking up art and dropping off art. Our First Friday is coming up and I am doing a demo that night. I love my life.

Kings Mills house
Hi, This little sweet home is in an area near here called Kings Mills, a lot of the homes look just alike. This is acrylics again and I used water to thin the paint sometimes and in the close up you can see that it has a feel of watercolor. Painted on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

Two more acrylics
Hello there, Well here are 2 more acrylics, still really enjoying them. I actually painted outside with them yesterday. A friend suggested putting a few layers of wet paper towel in foil and putting my acrylics on that, you can fold the foil up around them when you are finished. That worked pretty well, they didn't dry out. Much as I love oils you have to be careful not to muddy your colors by over blending, you do not have that issue with acrylics. Well we will see where this adventure takes me.
The first painting is on a 8 x 10 canvas and I really like it. The second is painted on a 6 x 6, 1 1/2" deep canvas.

Having some fun with acrylics
Hi there, I started out years ago painting with acrylics as a lot of people seem to do, I think beginners have a fear of oils for some reason. I learned to love oils and thought why would anyone use acrylics unless of course for health reasons. Well I was looking at a book on painting with acrylics and it inspired me to give them a try again and I have been having a ball. I feel a little rushed to work with them although I am adding a medium. I mixed my paint, put it on with a palette knife and then dabbed at it with aluminum foil to create texture. After that dried I painted my poppies and played with the edges with a very wet brush. I have painted a few more after this and I'll share those soon. I wanted this to be kind of an abstract floral. It is painted on a 8 x 10 canvas.

Just for practice
Hi there, I painted this Monday from a set up. My intention was to lay down my paint and not play around with it much. I painted this on a canvas panel, I only use these panels for practice. I had fun and I like the simple set up, may have to try it again on a better canvas. Oh and look at that cute curled shadow at the base of the handle, I like it!
Also I have been playing around with acrylics this week. I started with acrylics years ago when I was learning to paint and had decided I really didn't like them. However I am enjoying them, it's been years since I tried them and hopefully I know a lot more about painting these days and I think that is part of it. I'll post those soon.

White Peonies
Hi there, I painted this from a set up and had a great time doing it. I glazed over the Peonies trying to give them a softer feel. This is oil on a 11 x 14 canvas.

Oranges on Blue
Hello, I painted this a few days ago from a set up, such fun to paint the knife. I decided to add this dramatic blue background using Phthalo Blue, I added yellow and killed it with some red. I normally don't have Phthalo on my palette but I was watching one of Carol Marine's Art Byte videos and she uses it so I thought I would try it again. This is oil on a 8 x 10 canvas.

Crab Apple Blooms
Hello there, Spring is here and I love it! We have a Crab Apple tree in our yard and it is a bit ugly and gnarly but it produces these beautiful pink blooms. I put my hubby on a ladder and had him snip a limb for me. I put them in this little pink vase to keep them alive and decided to include the vase in the painting. I used a palette knife to create texture and I am including a close up so you can see that. This is oil on a 8 x 10 canvas.

I hope you are enjoying this wonderful Spring day!
