Winter Corn

Hello there, The art fair was yesterday, Saturday. We set it up Friday and then because of all the snow we were concerned with getting back there Saturday morning. The crowd was small because of the snow but I sold 4 pieces and may have 2 commissions, so it was a good day. I painted during the event too so you know I enjoyed that.

This is in oil on a 14 x 18 stretched canvas, I combined two photos for this painting. The house and barns were in one and the winter cornfield in another. Enjoy your Sunday

Old Country Church

Hello, Good news first, my painting of "The Kiss" did get accepted into the gallery here in town. I'm so pleased, the show will open the 13th for Valentines day and hang for about a month. I have already started working on another one for their next competition.

This painting was done from a photo of a old church, once again taken while driving over in southeastern Ohio. The flowers were not there but I felt it needed something in the foreground, if you look closely you will see a few small headstones in the front which were there. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

I have a art show this Saturday where I will be taking a lot of my paintings and demonstrating. If the show is slow I'll still be happy because I will be painting. See you soon

Up on the hill

Hi there, Over new years we were visiting some friends over in southeastern Ohio, a rural area with lots of old houses. I took this reference photo while driving along, I loved the photo immediately. Loved the curve in the road and of course the old house at the top of the hill. This is oil on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas. I have a art show on February 6th so I have this framed and ready to go. I use these gold crackled frames from Dick Blick most of the time. I think they work well with all subjects. Enjoy your day!

Engrossed in the game

Hello there, This is one of my grandsons, I painted this from a photo I took at Christmas. As you can see he is really into his game, best time to get photos. He was laying in our leather chair and stretched across the foot stool with his feet being the closet thing to me. I loved the way his hair is catching the light and if you look closely just a bit of that light is hitting his eyelashes. So fun to paint. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas.

My version of "The Kiss"

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday afternoon, rainy here but rainy days can be nice. Here is my final version of my take on Klimt's painting The Kiss. The first photo posted is the original painting by Klimt. I am posting the steps, hopefully you will find that interesting. I painted this on a 20" x 20" stretched canvas, the edges are 1 1/2" so I will not be framing it. I toned the canvas with gesso and some acrylic paint mixed in. The I used modeling paste and applied it with a palette knife, I wanted the garment to be three dimensional. I checked with Liquitex because I had never used the modeling paste and she suggested another coat of gesso over the modeling paste before applying oils. I painted this with oils and you can see some of the changes it went through. I sketched it on freehand and during the process put a smile on her face and a flower in her redesigned hand. I wanted the viewer to feel how in love she is, I wanted her to glow and I even radiated some orange tones into her hair. I used a palette knife to apply their hair also. The last two photos are the finished painting, a full shot and a close up. My daughter came up with the name, "Bliss" and I am going with that. I will submit the piece on Jan. 30th , I am just hoping it gets into the show. Once in it will hang for a month or so and there is prize money involved. So, wish me luck and I'll let you know. If not, I really had a great time trying something new.

Long Shadows

Hello there, I painted this a few months back and had never posted it for some reason. My hubby was in my studio and said "I like that". At the time I wasn't sure how I felt about it but if he likes it maybe you will too. This is a house near here and the shadows on the driveway attracted me to it. This is oil on a 8 x 10 canvas panel.

I am busy sketching ideas for a new project, a competition called The Good, the bad, the money. Supposed to be something about modern man and money, a good challenge.

Also I have a art show the beginning of February so I have been framing for that. I will post photos of my Kiss painting soon too.

Stages of a Commission

Hello, I just finished this commission and thought I would post the process involved. I received this photo in the mail and talked to the client about what she wanted to see in the finished painting. She had taken this photo while on vacation and loved the barn and the red tree in the background. She did not want the front of the barn to be going out of the painting and she wanted the barn larger with a rusty roof. I cropped her photo as you can see using a mat that I cut at the corners, a great free tool. By cropping it, it enlarged the barn and made the front of the barn face in and the red tree really came into focus too. I painted this in oil on a 8 x 10 Raymar panel and it will be shipped to her in the gold crackled frame shown in the photo. Thought you might find this interesting.
