Different Strokes Challenge

Hello,  I painted this a couple of nights ago for Karin Jurick's blog, Different strokes for different folks.  It is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel,  took about 1 1/2 hrs.  When I saw it posted on her site,  I thought wow,  it looks so washed out and gray.  So I have to admit I went back and brightened it up a bit,  working alla prima has it's advantages and disadvantages.  I think sometimes I over blend when I work in one session, you can turn oils into mud if you aren't careful.  Have a great day!

Portrait

Hi there,  I painted this little gal on a 11 X 14 Raymar panel in oil.  I have started a new painting of her making lots of changes.  I think this came out well,  soft edges and a pretty good likeness.  However I think I need more darks in the painting,  my tendency is to paint portraits without enough darks.  I seem to do better with landscapes but struggle with people.  I have only been painting portraits about six months or so and probably would have been thrilled to paint this a few months back but now I want more.  I guess that is the way it should be,  we should always be growing as artists.  So back to the easel and I'll keep you posted. :)

My Cleo

Hi,  this is a painting of my sweet Cleo.  She is about 15 years old.  She sleeps with us every night and greets us at the door like a dog.  A little rotten but what pet isn't?  This is oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. Hope you have a purrrrrfect day!

Hi,  I painted this several weeks ago when I had decided to do a series of children,  never posted this one as I wasn't sure how I felt about it.  So here she is.  I am starting some paintings thinking of a juried show that comes up later this year,  I want to give myself lots of options.  I will be hanging four of my paintings in a show for the month of April,  all landscapes because it is called Values of Green.
