Good Morning, I put some exercises together for my group that meets on Monday morning. One of them was to graph off our canvas and paint upside down. We painted this painting of Hals, La Bohemienne. I covered the canvas with paint trying to just paint shapes and colors and then we turned everything upright and I continued to add details. It is in oil on a 11 X 14 canvas. Can't you just see her carrying several steins of beer in one hand? lol. If you checked this post out before you may notice the painting is a bit different, I painted the background again and I like it better.

Sounds like a fun painting group Barbara! How successful is the selling on etsy? Curious why that may be better than a 'pay pal' button on the blog? Id love to think Id be ready in a month or so to sale some small things....also, do you sale the canvas unframed?
Hi Laine, So far no success with Etsy, I just started with that. I'm just trying different things, I sold on Ebay for years off and on but thought I'd try Etsy. I think the paypal button on your blog is good too, I've tried that a few times. Who knows, just would be nice to move some things, I paint a lot.
This face looks familiar - I think I have been drinking with her.
Here is a marketing thought, Barbara - have your husband get a second job. He can buy your pieces. On his weekends he can build a shrine to house them.

I like the painting. Did you enjoy painting it upside down? I've drawn upside down, but never painted that way! I've had my students draw their self-portraits upside down. It frees them from their preconceived ideas about their appearance. I didn't realize you could add a pay pal on a blog. I haven't actually tried to sell anything on line yet. I still have many paintings lying around that I haven't had time to post, let alone put up for sale.
Hi Neetzy, It worked pretty well doing it upside down. I added all of the details to her face once I turned it upright because I was too far away to see it well. Check out adding a button, ask me if you need help.
Hi Barb, Very nice, great idea to paint upside down. I'll have to try that. I check for mistakes after I'm a ways along that way or by viewing the painting in a mirror. It just makes all the "wrong passages" stand out like a sore thumb.
Hi Debra, It really does help to look at your painting upside down or through a mirror. I also find that after I photograph my painting and get it up on my monitor it's like looking at someone elses painting.
