Portrait, 8 X 10

Good Morning, I was watching Dave Darrow do a live painting demo Monday night and he was painting a cool looking dude. It made me want to paint something similar so I looked through my husband's book on the old west and found this guy. It's in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. Hope you think my guy is a cool dude. Anyway it was fun to do, more fun to paint people you don't know I think. I think Dave is painting Wednesday and Thursday night, check him out.

I like the mysterious smokey, atmospheric quality surrounding the gentleman. Do you ever paint from live models? I am now trying to paint a portait from a combination of two photos. They are both small. It is very challenging. I've never met the man and it will be a gift for him, what pressure!

Hi Barbara, Nice painting
the cool looking dude is a Gent.
But I prefer Cowpunchers. L.O.L.
I guess the pressure is on the Guys.
Happy Brushing.

Hi Neetzy, That does sound like a challenge especially not knowing the man. I'm new to portraits, the one of my daughter I did from a small black and white photo. I have painted with models a couple of times. I'll be watching for you to post the portrait, I hope you do.

Barbara,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. You're brave to paint people...I don't think I'll try it any time soon as I'm still struggling with fruit. Keep up the good work!

I love the eyes... really cool...

I appreciate that Sylvia, I tried to suggest the glasses and not just paint in the entire frame.

I'm still working on that portrait. I had to do a color photocopy to enlarge the photo of the gentleman. It was too small. I now have to adjust his proportions and make it look like he belongs in the environment I am placing him in!

You need to check out Susan Carlin or Davethepaintingguy on Ustream. They are both portraits painters and do live shows, you can go watch the ones they have taped also. Great help
