Online Workshop

Hello,  I spent this whole weekend taking an online workshop with Dave Darrow.  I have taken many workshops with different results but all similar. The teacher normally demos and then we paint and they might make it around to you once or maybe twice depending on the number of people in the workshop. Not knocking workshops but some are better than others.  I really really enjoyed this online workshop.  It felt as though I was getting 12 or so hours of private instruction.  I set my computer up by my easel and painted right along with Dave.  We sent in our progress photos for critiques two times each day to help us make sure  we were headed in the right direction.  I am pretty pleased with my painting,  the likeness isn't right on but I wanted to follow Daves lead and sketch it on the canvas his way instead of my usual way.  I start with the eyes normally and work my way out. This is oil on a 11 X 14 linen panel.  Dave is doing this same workshop next weekend and I don't believe it is full yet. I would highly recommend it.  He has another coming up in a couple of weeks on a nude figure also.  Hopefully you can tell the progression of these,  they go from the bottom up.  Bottom two are the first day,  sketch and where we finished up.  The third is earlier today and the top two are the finished painting.

Hi William, We were kind of the guinea pigs, his first workshop you know. Kind of crazy at first just getting everyone in but Dave made up for the late start. Things ran pretty smooth after that. You should catch the repeat of it next weekend.

Hi Barb,
Love your wonderful soft portrait. Your painterly rendition inspires me.

Wasn't that workshop great!? Dave's critiques are right on but gentle. Very fun and educational.

See you in the chat room.

Hi Lee, Your portrait was really excellent, we all seem to still have our own styles even with Dave's great instruction. Thanks for stopping by

Hey Barb,

Interesting progression. Good progress. I like the early sketches as much as the finished product. I never took an online workshop. Sounds worthwhile! I do like your final result.

Hi Rosemary, Fun to see progress shots isn't it? Glad you like the finished result. You should do one of Daves workshops. He plans to do them on a lot of different subjects.

Very nice Barbara.

I don't understand how an online workshop could get "full".

Hi Bill, Dave had a limit to the number of people he would accept in the workshop. It is because of the time it takes to do the online critiques. Isn't he internet amazing.
