Reflections

Hi, Tried something different on this one. I toned the canvas with burnt sieanna and allowed that color to show through on the finished painting. I think it gives it an impressionistic feel. This is oil on a 8 X 10 stretched canvas. Thanks for all the very nice feedback on my last post, the painting of my grandson. I appreciate all of the people that visit my blog and I am always very excited when I see a new comment.

Oh yes, I like this. I most often tone with one color or another. I used to paint at the beach and toned with cad red light, of all things, but limited the palette to ultramarine, cad red lt, cad yellow lt, and white. It was great fun and I loved the outcome.
Like you, I love to see a comment on the blog. It lets me know people are checking the facebook posts, because it is so new, not many people know of it.
How is your ebay auction site doing? I am intimidated just thinking about that, but maybe sometime I will give it a try. I am not convinced that artwork makes money on ebay. What is your experience?
I have sold 3 of the 50 Under $50 just from facebook and the blog.....and no fees.
I really enjoy the ustream chats, and I am learning lots from all of you. I appreciate your input and insights, and that you share your experience. Thank you for that. Debra P S I wanted that little sunflower painting Susan bought, just failed to inquire about it.

Hi Debra, So glad you like it, just trying new things makes painting exciting doesn't it? Congrats on the sales, sounds like you are doing just fine without Ebay. I took the summer off and just starting listing again several weeks ago. It is up and down. I have sold 5 paintings on there in the last several weeks and I think I have a commission from a gal that found me on Ebay. I sell some through my blog and have received on commission on Facebook. I just try everything. With Ebay if you hang in there you start getting a following after a while. You won't get big prices for your work on there but if you paint like you and I, you need to move things out, lol. I would recommend Ebay, doesn't cost much to try and it is fun to watch your auctions. So glad you liked the sunflower painting too, I am honored that it hangs on Susans wall.

That is nice to hear Janice. I think as artists that what we hope for isn't it? To get an emotional response from our viewer.

Great clear colors, and lovely paint-handling. Nicely composed too.

Hi Joan, How nice of you to visit and I'm glad you like my work. :)

Thanks so much Dar. The color thing can be a issue especially when you paint alla prima. With not trying to cover up the toned color it keeps me from over blending. I just keep fighting the fight, haha

Lovely, reminds me of a lovely place I've been - and the mood you captured is perfect - it's nice to be able to remind someone thanks!

This is a very nice piece. Since I rarely get to go online to look at paintings lately, there is a gap, and I'm struck by how much you improve with each visit. The grandson painting is another nice work. Isn't it fun to paint different subjects?

Hi Bill, Your comment means so much to me, really. I work really hard at improving and it is so great that you see a noticeable difference. I do jump all over with my subjects and it does make it fun.

The burnt sienna base has given such a glow to this Barbara! I always use this colour when I do portraits and have recently discovered (thanks to Dean) black gesso. Great to try different things!

Hi Liz, It is fun to try new things. I have never used this color for a portrait but sounds like I need to try that too. I know Karin Jurick starts with a black canvas, she feels it helps her with values.
