The opening of "The Kiss"

Hello, Last night was the opening of "The Kiss". This exhibit was open to all artists and all mediums. The first photo is me and my version of the kiss is above my head, the other photos are some of the gals in my group that participated standing by their paintings. It was fun and great to see everyones work. Not surprising I did not agree with the judges choice. First place was an amazing pastel that had nothing to do with Klimt's painting. Second place was most upsetting, it went to a photograph that I would consider pornographic that once again didn't have anything to do with "The Kiss". I personally feel that photos should not be judged next to paintings, the two are miles apart in my view. I hope I don't sound bitter, I was pleased to be included in the show and art is so subjective. One of our gals painted an outfit to go with the theme, she painted her shoes and a little purse to match her outfit also. I promised to post some photos from the show, hope you enjoy seeing them.

How fun to see you with your "Kiss" painting, Barb! This will be an interesting chapter in the "Barbara Pask's Art Adventures" book. Both you and your painting are just beautiful.

Barbara, Your painting shines a light on the other ones. Your facial expressions are really nice. I agree with you about judging paintings and photographs in the same venue. My local art society is still allowing that and it can be discouraging.

HI Sandra, Thank you, I feel good about it and I love seeing it on the wall in the gallery. I wish they would consider not judging the photography with paintings, hopefully they will eventually. In our local art festival we judge them on their own. In most cases we start with a photo and then turn it into a painting, part of the process for us. I'm not discounting good photography it is just very different though.

Good art Barb! You look proud and you should!
All these paintings are wonderful and deserve credit!
Tell them gals I'd give 'em all a kiss!

Thank you Bill. So funny, I'll pass that on to the girls, your offer of a kiss, hehe.

Just figured out how to get here after receiving email notification. Love your rendition of "The Kiss" and enjoyed seeing the other entries as well. I can understand your frustration at prize choices and I agree wholeheartedly with the fact that photographs should not be judged along with artwork.

This looked like such fun to do Barbara and a great painting as well. I'm surprised that they judged photographs with artwork - I haven't had that problem so far.

Hi Liz, It was a fun night until the judging, lol. I keep hoping they will understand that it isn't fair to judge photos against paintings. Thank you for stopping by.

Yours looks so beautiful up there on the wall amongst the others. Yes, sad to say, there are those little disappointments in shows and judging. It looks like it was a lot of fun!

Thank you Pattie. I know, we need to be tough skinned but it's hard. grrrrrr
