Irises-plein air

Hello, When I went on my outing last weekend we all set up and painted irises. There were irises blooming in all colors and just gorgeous. I used my palette knife and created some nice texture in the blooms and leaves. I started out painting some that were purple and white, they were in the sunlight and the white part of them just glowed. I found that they didn't read right, I just didn't like the white part of the bloom. I remember reading somewhere that if something is kind of unbelievable to your eye that you shouldn't paint it. You know, some kind of crazy cloud formation maybe or some unusual colored irises, lol. Anyway I changed them to bascially one color and I think the painting is much more appealing. This is oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Thanks Carol. See, you need to paint some, lol.

You're so sweet Liz. I wanted the tall iris to be your focus with the light hitting it. I really appreciate your visits.

Lovely irises, the background works well too, Barbara.

Thanks Marie, They were up against a porch so it was dark behind them and I thought that worked well.
