Still life-Pear

Hello there, I painted this from a set up recently, oil on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. Painted my first peonie yesterday, a complicated flower. I think it came out pretty well, I used a palette knife for the flower. They come and go quickly don't they?

Monday I set up four still lifes for my painting group, we spent one hour on our painting. After that you could move to another set up and spend another hour. It was fun and crazy, ten of us were painting around the table. Debra Bryant recommended a book by Craig Nelson called "60 Minutes to a Better Painting", I have one of his dvd's called "Quick Studies". Both are excellent and that is where I got the idea to do the quick study with my group. Makes you react quickly and not overwork your painting, just to get the canvas covered is the thing. You should try it if you haven't.

What a really pretty still life! The sort of painting one can live with. The green and blue looks good together like that!

Nice still life! I like the colors and composition.

I have the book and DVD by Craig Nelson, but haven't looked at it in quite a while. This is a great reminder that I should bring out the book and read it again. This is a really good exercise! :-)

Hi Carol, Thank you. Yes, check out that book, a great exercise for all of us. A few in our group did not complete their painting in an hour but I'm pretty sure they will try the exercise again. I suggested they keep their first try so they can look back as time goes along.

Thank you Marie, those are words I love to hear. Hopefully someone will feel they need to live with it. :)

Hi Linda, so glad you like this, I did not paint this on Monday. This one took maybe 2 hrs. , sorry if I made it sound like it was a quick study. Yes, get that book back out.

This is really great Barbara - you've caught the freshness and sparkle of that fruit. Thanks, too, for the book recommendation.

Hi Liz, Thank you very much. Yes, check out that book. He does two demos in the dvd, a still life and a figurative painting.
