First Friday

Hi Everyone, I appreciated everyones good wishes for my First Friday at the Pendleton Art Center. Friday night was fun. A good crowd with lots of friendly people and a lot of familiar faces. I think the local people are really enjoying the center. A lot of them show up for each First Friday. There is food and music and so much to see, however they are enjoying it but not buying. They need to support us with purchases too if they want the center to be a success. I spoke to a few of the other studio artists and they're not sure they will renew their leases unless things pick up. I am hoping come spring when it's time to renew our lease that most of my studio buddies want to go on for another year, I think you have to hang in there for a few years and allow things to grow. I sold one small painting and I think someone is coming back for one of my 8 x 10's next month. Hopefully November and December will be great months for everyone. I love to paint and will continue to paint no matter what but it's nice to recoup some of your expenses and it's always so great when someone wants to live with your art. Here are a few photos of my walls, the triptych is outside the studio. There is a cafe in the building open Monday-Friday so the outside wall continues to get some exposure through the month. Thanks again for your wonderful support, It means a lot to me.

Have a wonderful day

I agree, Barbara. The economy is really tough on everyone. Hopefully, things will pick up SOON! In the meantime just try to stay the course ...... hard, but hopefully will pay off in the future.

Your paintings look great framed and on the wall! Hang in there! :-)

Like all true artists, you are painting with your heart. I am not sure anything else matters except that you love it...

It looks wonderful, Barbara! :) I agree that it is tough on everyone now. Glad to see you painting, though. I feel the same way. Just gotta keep on keeping on and hoping to see things turn around. Meantime, speaking for myself, I hope to keep on learning and seeing improvement... each time I learn something new I am so thrilled.

Your display looks marvelous, Barb. And your paintings wonderful. Glad to hear you got a sale and a possible come back. Seems like all over the net, I'm hearing the same tale of low sales. Just have to keep on painting and ride it out. You're a painter cause you're a painter! did my fav little painting sell? The one of the chefs?

Thank you very much Linda. I will hang in there, I could never quit painting as I LOVE it so. We'll just continue to support each other.

I think you are right Debra, we are meant to paint so we'll just keep moving forward won't we? Thank you

Thanks Teresa! I'm with you, I feel like I am learning all the time and loving it in the process so I'll just keep at it.

Hi there Laura, thank you. That's right we are painters because we are painters, doing what we are supposed to be doing. The chefs are still available. I have another event on Tuesday night and then I will probably start posting them on here and Ebay. Glad you like it.

Your display looks amazing, Barb! You are definitely an inspiration to us beginners. I look up to you ladies and learn so much. It's wonderful to see your work. I hope things pick up for you, but understand completely your feeling on painting from the heart and not from the pocketbook. LOL Thanks for sharing your work.

Thank you so much Nina, so nice to read that. Sorry if I sounded negative, just venting I guess, lol. I have always said "it's like a roller coaster" learning to paint I mean, "it's up and down". Same goes for sales. On to the next venue, right?

Hello Barbara- thanks for visiting my blog; you have some lovely paintings here! Yup, selling is a roller-coaster, I think every painter goes through it. For me I have to remember that improving is the most important thing; I read some good advice about how I am practicing, and selling just means someone is paying me to practice. However when you have a studio lease it's hard to be casual about it. Art is tough!

What a beautiful display! Your wall looks wonderful - your paintings are lovely! Maybe with the holidays coming up folks will be buying presents! An original "Barbara Pask" would delight anyone on Christmas morning- be it framed or on the easel! Good luck - and keep those brushes moving!

Well hi Judy, Thanks for visiting me too. My husband has always said that how great is it to do something I love and be able to re-coup some of my expenses. I really do not do it for the money but I love to sell my art.

You are so sweet Rosemary, thank you. You're a wonderful supportive friend.

Barbara, the economy is really tough and I hear that from all levels of artists. My drawing instructor has made a living for 35 years with his art and he is moaning, too.

This is a beautiful display. I hope you get to keep your studio for another year.

Thank you Mary. I know you are right, a lot of artists that used to make a nice living painting are now struggling. It's a shame but times are tough and art is a luxury.

Here in Minnesota, many of the art stores are selling streatched canvases for up to 70% off.
One store put there good oil paints under locked glass~

Gold gilding is a cautious word to some. the price of gold has made its use very conservative. (Not that it wasen't before..)
Today they have to really want/need it. There is no impulse buying. Things are tuff all over.

Well you aren't making me feel any better Bill, lol. Nice of you to visit. I know things are tough, what can we do but just keep painting and work on improving, right?
