Sweet Little Ballerina

I had fun painting this, I took this photo from the reference library at Wetcanvas. Wetcanvas is a great resource for artists, the photos are not copyrighted. I always think that has been one of the challenges with painting, good photo references. If I were entering one of my paintings in a show I would only use my own reference photos though. Anyway, this is in oil on a 8 X 10 canvas panel. In the photo I couldn't see what she was holding in her left hand so I put a little gift in there. Not completely sure of the background, do you like it? I thought she was warm so I did a cool background and then decided to throw some of the pink in there. SOLD

Great job on the little ballerina. I agree with Holly...the B/G with the bit of pink added harmonizes well.

It's not easy to do childrens' faces and you did a lovely job on this one.
You've got some really wonderful landscapes here too- with reflected water.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Your enthusiasm for the process of painting is so evident on your blog!

Well thank you Bonnie. I do love painting and I jump around doing all subjects thinking one day I'll settle into one area. I may never and I think that's ok too.

Hi Barbara~
What a cutey. I have some ballet picture of Rowan that I keep wanting to paint.
I did start my P.Knife painting finally, it pretty much is a mess.& Susan made it look so easy.
I think the blue background works, but, you might try & tone it down a little, w/ an umber glaze, very thinly.
Kinda like what Susan was doing w/ her little girl painting with the stripe background.~The two (pink & blue) are about the same brightness, one needs to give into the other.
I love little ballerinas.

Hi Amy, This was fun to paint. Susan makes it all look easy, it is for her. Thank for the suggestions on the background, wasn't sure when I did it. I had intentions of making in just blue but your paint brush has a mind of it own sometimes, lol.

Hi Barb--the Ballerina--what a sweet piece! I think the painting works as a whole, so I guess that means the background does too. It would never occur to me that it was a question for you--until you raised it. Funny how we have so mnay doubts about our work. Keeps us humble...

Hi Jack, Thank you, sounds like most that have commented like the background. Hey I still had pink on my palette so I had to throw some in there.
