WIP- For Art Festival?

Hi there, I had a booth in a art show last Saturday and Sunday, it was pretty slow. Met some wonderful people though and sold 7 pieces. Five of those were the little square canvases I recently posted.
This painting is 16 x 20 on a stretched canvas. I may submit it for the local arts festival in August if it turns out well. You might recall that I painted this a while back on a 8 x 10 canvas. This time I am working more on his likeness. This is my grandson setting in our chair and ignoring everything around him while playing his game. I am open for your critiques as I'm not sure where I want to make changes. I really liked his position and the way the light is hitting his hair and lashes. I painted the image the way it was in the photo, I realize the feet are large because of foreshortening. I thought the large feet made it cute and funny. Do you find it odd? Of course the piece isn't varnished so the darks have flattened out a bit. As usual my photos are not the best, the painting appears a bit more grayed down on here. Ok, lay it on me, lol.

This position is lovely, Barbara. I find it typical of a child. You have not posed him or interfered with him and that gives us a tranquil painting full of character Your muted colours are very effective. Your sales were very good, most artists have stuff heaping up in these difficult times when people buy only essentials.

Barbara...I think this is great. Such a typical pose for a young boy and his games. I have one of those.

Great pic Barbara. My grandson is 9 and I find him in all sorts of postions too. My favorite is him sitting on the floor in front of the couch playing his game, he is barefoot and one foot is stuck in Grandpa's slipper. Maybe that will be my next painting. LOL
I love your work.

Hi Carol, I am so pleased to have you visit and comment. I will visit you and yes you should paint your grandson. That sounds like such a cute position.

Hi Josh, I am so glad you like it. I agree with that area around his foot being light, I had already planned to darken that. If you come back to read this please let me know if the size of his feet bother you. Like I said my original thought was that it might give the viewer a laugh but maybe they should be smaller. Painting is hard work, lol.

Hi Barb...Way to go on those sales!
Love the natural "unposed" look! That's always the best, I think.

Your paimting looks great should do very well at the festival!
The size of the feet don't really bother me.

I would like to see something other than the light completely surrounding the chair. Something in a grayed complimentary to the chair perhaps? Of course, all this is only IMHO. :)

Corrections...I should read my comments before hitting "publish"! Lol

"paimting"= painting

"complimentary"=complementary

Thanks Todd & Dean, I value both of your opinions. I am happy you think it will make a good submission to the art festival. I absolutely will be changing that background and I will keep looking at those feet.

I'm taking particular interest in this piece as I'm doing a painting of my daughter in a very similar leather chair. No the large feet don't detract. You really must have them to portray the figure as it would appear to the viewer eye from this angle. A challenging painting that you did very well. Congratulations on selling paintings in this tight markey.

Soooo glad you decided to do this one larger! Yea! You captured the total concentration our grandsons put into these games! The light on his hair is wonderful as is that little whisper on the eyelashes! I think the sizes of the feet are fine and, once you make the background adjustment, they probably won't bother you either! GREAT job on a complex composition!

Congrats on the sales! You are onto something with those little square canvases! They are delightful!

Thank you Bill, look forward to seeing your painting. I am going to darken that background first especially around that hanging foot and take another look at it.
