Red Trees

Hi there, I have worked on this painting off and on over the last several months. Paint a while, stare at it and so on. I painted this out of my head which is very unusual for me as I always use a reference or paint from life.  I wanted this grouping of red trees to feel wind blown. The landscape is kind of surreal and I went with that and added the design at the bottom as I felt it needed something else.

This is acrylic on a 16" x 20" canvas.

Poppies yet again

Hello sweet visitors to my blog, today for your viewing pleasure I have a painting of poppies yet again, lol I'm being silly, sorry. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I really tried to keep this painterly and let the brushstrokes show. I wanted to suggest the distant poppies and make the closer ones a bit more detailed. "Banana Split Anyone?"

Hi there, I was trying to come up with a clever name, I'm so boring, lol. It was going to be "Bananas and Cherries" and I thought this was cuter. This is acrylic on a 8 x 10 stretched canvas, my favorite size or it must be because most of my paintings are that size. I think this is the first time I have painted bananas and had a great time doing it. Please take time to comment, I love hearing from you.

Shades of White

Hi Friends, I purchased this little white glass bird a while back and thought it would be so nice to use it in a still life with other white objects. White is such fun to paint, as you can see there are warm and cool whites. I wanted to keep the hydrangeas white also but wanted touches of other colors so they wouldn't be boring. This is acrylic on a 11" x 14" stretched canvas. Getting pretty excited, this next weekend is a workshop with Patti Mollica, there is a link to her blog on my blog list. Still life

Hi there, A recently completed still life, I struggle with names so I am open to suggestions. I have several bird nests sitting out on my potting bench, I just love all the intricate work that goes into them. Anyway I finally brought one in to paint and this painting other than the bird nest went through many changes. Started with a blue and white vase, then it became a black and blue jar and then I chose this crock. The bird was a wren and then I wanted something with more color so settled on the Blue Tit and of course the background changed colors several times. I find that I really enjoy dark backgrounds and the drama it creates in a painting. This is acrylic on a 11" x 14" stretched canvas. I hope you enjoy seeing it. Poppies ~ mixed media

Hi! I know it is hard to see from the photo but this is a mixed media piece. I first applied acid free paper with musical notes and some of that shows through here and there. This painting began as yellow daffodils and I just wasn't feeling them. I went back in and painted poppies over them and left some of the yellow here and there. I like it so much better now, I try not to let it bother me when a painting doesn't work and try to use it as a learning experience. As I type this I know that isn't quite true, I think as artists we want them all to turn out. I have to admit I sleep better at night when I have a good day painting, lol. Crazy, huh? I know you understand if you paint. I have started a new larger still life, I applied a patterned paper to the canvas first. I am having so much fun with mixed media, can you tell? Sunflowers & Postcards

Hi there, This painting is a mixed media piece. I first attached acid free paper that has old postcards printed on it, I cut it up and added sections to it with gel medium. I set up my sunflowers and painted them with acrylic, adding a few splatters at the end. I added a cropped photo of the painting so you can see some of the background. I always love painting sunflowers, I tried to make these very interesting adding different shades of yellow and oranges. This is painted on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas. I can't wait until I can go out into my yard and cut some fresh flowers to paint. Spring is almost here, I sure hope so anyway, lol. I hope you are enjoying your day. :)
